Continue ReadingA new series starts today and, with the help of club season winding down, some big names have come off of our big board of available recruits from the Hoosier State for the class of 2022. Here are five middles you should already know.
Abigail Kesler Abigail Kesler 5'11" | MB Muncie Burris | 2022 State #196 Nation IN , 5-11, Munciana, Muncie Burris
What keeps her high on my list for so long is her ability to play multiple positions with ease. Within the 17 Aztecs system, Miss Kesler is a two-footed middle who spends some time as a right side with pop. Although her size has had some overlook her, her quick transition and ability to consistently put the ball to the floor has her stand out among this group. She projects to be an M2 or a RS at the next level.
Lovie Wallace Lovie Wallace 6'0" | MB Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State IN , 6-0, Munciana, Hamilton Southeastern
On the flagship team at Munciana, Lovie has seen her training time outlast her playing time this club season. No matter—Mr. Lingenfelter has coached her up as a broad-shouldered option in the middle that can go off of one foot or two. I would love to see her as the primary middle, but there just isn’t enough footage of her playing this spring to talk about her gains until next fall comes around at HSE.
Aniya Kennedy Aniya Kennedy 6'0" | MB La Porte | 2022 State IN , 6-0, Dunes, LaPorte
I’m cheating a bit here, since Aniya is listed as an OH on the Dunes roster. I’ve now seen her dominate in multiple positions, and her athleticism and jumping ability get her positive results consistently. Miss Kennedy is a fast, high-flying middle or pin option that is only getting better with time.
Niesha Anderson Niesha Anderson 6'2" | MB Fort Wayne Snider | 2022 State IN , 6-2, Empowered, Fort Wayne Snider
A big, two-sport stud is what you get out of Niesha. By far the biggest and longest on this list, Miss Anderson is an exceptional M2, as her attacks off of two feet are more terminal than most. Her size and length also make her an above average defender, and can go from pin to pin with ease. Larger schools might try to make her a RS, but she’s best suited in the middle.
Sarah Bennett Sarah Bennett 6'0" | MB Columbus North | 2022 State IN , 6-0, Circle City, Columbus North
“Athletic aggressiveness for days” is how Sarah is described by one opposing coach. As this season has plodded along, I’ve personally seen Sarah improve in both the middle and on each pin. her athletic acuity is off of the charts, and she can flip a switch between positions as needed. She’s a relentless competitor as well—even in wins, she’s still tough enough on herself to find yet another edge to her high-flying and fast-twitch abilities. In short, Miss Bennett can be a three-rotation OH or RS, an M2 or an M1.
