Continue ReadingWhat has been a shortened club volleyball season is coming to an end in Seattle but the best was arguably saved for the last with the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship set to take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
The event is expected to attract more than 700 teams in the 15 divisions for clubs from 15s to 17s and the state of Washington will be among the participants with at least 11 teams entered to appear in the event.
Between now the stating serve on June 26, we’ll take a look in each of those teams, recapping their club season and pointing out the players you would want to follow in the tournament.
NPJ Seattle 15 National
Part of the North Pacific Juniors Volleyball Club located in Seattle, NPJ Seattle 15 National didn’t’ get to play a lot in the shortened season, totaling 25 matches, with nine wins and 16 losses. The team coached by Derek Edwards will appear in the 15 Patriot division in Las Vegas after finishing seventh in the PSR Power League, ninth in the PSR JRC/Bid and tenth in the Pacific Northwest Qualifier.
Players to Watch
Lana Cory – Libero – HS: Jefferson – 2023
Lana Cory provides some important defensive stability for NPJ Seattle 15 National. The 5’4” defender masters the defensive side of the game and makes her teammates better with her ability to keep the ball up in the air. She’s coming from a high school season with Jefferson in which she averaged 4.5 digs per set.
Sophie Danielson – Middle Blocker – HS: Auburn Riverside – 2024
Sophie Danielson brings a strong presence to the net for NPJ Seattle 15 National. A six-footer, she uses her size well and is an important piece for the team both when hitting and blocking. She can also play as a right sider if needed and is part of a strong high school program in Auburn Riverside and will have every opportunity to further improve her game.
Aly Skagen – Outside Hitter – HS: Kentwood – 2025
Aly Skagen is another prospect of NPJ Seattle 15 National with tremendous upside. A 2025 player, she already has well-refined volleyball skills and will only get better with time. A 5’8” outside hitter, she’s a hard-worker and can also be deployed on the right if the team needs it.
