Continue ReadingWe looked at the results yesterday and saw Power ‘] 15-1 sitting at 2-3 and didn’t think much about their chances of staying in the championship rounds. That 2-3 record was good enough for 4th place and pushed them into a three-team pool for Day 3. Today we glanced at the results earlier in the day and saw them defeat both NKYVC 15-1 and OT 15 T Randy to win the pool. They were back in business and stood a challenge match away from getting to the gold bracket. They always say, “it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish”. Power faced Flyers 15 APX-Bill in the crossover match and it was intense! The back and forth between these teams were a treat to watch as they went back and forth in set 1, with Flyers taking it 26-24. Power fought back and created distance to get a 25-20 second set win. The emotions were running in the final set as both teams traded punches and player shoves on their side of the net but Power delivered 16-14 to advance to the gold bracket. OH Jillian Huckabey was electric in the match. She delivered when it mattered. Hope Hickman had some timely kills in the second set. It was also good to see Alea Goolsby back on the court after some rest this season. MB Makenzie Miller played well in the match with timely kills and blocks at the net. Libero Ryan McAleer was all over the court making plays. They will open up bracket play with SG Elite 15 Roshambo.
APEX 15-1 is a Heart of America team we kind of forgot to follow after the first day. The Springfield-based team jumped out to a 7-0 start of the tournament to win their pool and put them in a great position to get to the gold bracket. By winning the pool, they only had to play one challenge match. That challenge match was against another HOA team in Mizuno Club North 15-1, who defeated ANOTHER HOA team in Missouri Juniors 15-1. In the Crossover Match, all of the middles on the court were nothing short of amazing. We couldn’t see the numbers of the APEX players but their front line stepped it up after the first set. Caroline Wengler Caroline Wengler 5'11" | MB Park Hill South | 2024 State MO was elite at the net, including some great slides off the hands of Felicia Wu. Avery Ashby played well in the losing effort. We hope to highlight more APEX players tomorrow in the gold bracket round.
HPSTL 15 Royal and Mavs KC 15-1 are still in contention in the National Division after a competitive day. 15 Royal handled business in two sets in their challenge round, defeating Mintonette .51 25-17, 25-21. OH Grace Killion had a lively arm in this contest and the defense was feeling shot after shot. Riley Kortkamp made her presence felt defensively with some big roof blocks. RS Shae Pearson played big in this match with timely kills and blocks. Mavs KC had to work a little harder in defeating Drive Nation in a 3 set slugfest. MB Sophia Munro and RS Fiona VanDyke rose to the occasion in this match with some lasers and strong defensive play. OH Sara Allmon delivered some clutch kills in the match. S Kelsey Schenck was smooth and poised throughout the contest. She delivered great passes and made a few key digs from right back.
