And did we get a treat in the Shore Conference Final as Christian Brothers and Southern squared-off who are two of the top three squads in the Prep Dig Power Rankings. The match did not disappoint as Southern got to avenge their only loss of the season to CBA. It took a three-set thriller to end Christian Brothers’ perfect season. The match concluded 25-21, 21-25, 25-22 as it lived up to the hype.
The seniors from Southern made every play when it mattered against these two evenly matched squads. Senior Tommy Deakyne played as one of the top outside hitters in the state finishing with 23 kills and seven digs. Senior Dylan Lockwood stepped up as well being a passer all over the court finishing 12 digs and 35 assists.
The defense of Southern was the reason they were able to come out with the victory being able to stay in points and limit the high-flying CBA offense. Jack Dooling for Christian Brothers had 11 kills in the defeat but everyone else was relatively limited. This ended up being the difference in Southern coming out victorious.
Both squads are still in the State Tournament with Southern taking on Pinelands in the South bracket while CBA against Iselin Kennedy in the Central bracket. Don’t be surprised if these two potentially match-up again this season in the State Tournament as both are clear favorites in their sections.
