COACHES:
Head Coach | Jessica Becker |
Assistant Coach | Brianna Maitlin |
There were 6 players who played the majority of the sets for the Wolverines including one senior, four juniors, and one sophomore. Thankfully for Sioux City West most of their players who played the majority of time will be returning. That is a good start for a team.
GRADUATED:
Payton Monroe (RS)
Monroe played in 51 of 56 sets last year. She had 2 assists, 35 kills, 16 digs, and 7 service aces.
Tayden Fairbanks (RS)
Fairbanks played in 29 of 56 sets for the Wolverines. She had 2 digs and 13 service aces with an 87.2% serve efficiency.
Yuriczi Montes (MH)
Montes played in 43 of the 56 sets played by the Wolverines last year. She had 31 kills and 21 total blocks.
The core players on the Wolverines team are in a group of juniors who are all returning this year, barring unforeseen circumstances.
RETURNING PLAYERS:
Eneyada Vasquez (2022, S)
Vasquez is one of the more enjoyable players to watch on this team. She played in 43 of the 56 sets played last year and had 4.5 APS, 2 kills, 5 total blocks, 32 digs, and 13 service aces with a 92.9% serve efficiency.
Haley Gruis (2022, L)
Gruis played in all 56 sets for the Wolverines last fall and produced 7 assists, 12 kills, 3.1 DPS, and 4 service aces with an 89.9% serve efficiency.
Holly Duax (2022, MH)
Duax played in all 56 sets for the Wolverines as well. She had 4 assists, 1.2 KPS, a team-high 29 total blocks, 19 digs, and 9 service aces with an 83.2% serve efficiency.
Gabby Wagner (2022, OH)
Wagner played in all 56 sets for the Wolverines…are you sensing a trend? She had 2 assists, 46 kills, 11 total blocks, 1.3 DPS, and 11 service aces with a 90.0% serve efficiency.
Maya Augustine (2023, OH)
Augustine played in all 56 sets for the Wolverines in the 2020 season. She had a team-high 1.2 KPS, 6 total blocks, 1.4 DPS, and a team-high 18 service aces with a 78.1% efficiency.
Kylah Cortez (2022, DS)
Cortez also played in all 56 sets for the Wolverines last season. She had 2 assists, 5 kills, 51 digs, and 7 service aces with an 82.5% serve efficiency.
Abby Hammer (2023, S)
Hammer only played in 16 sets last season but had 3.5 APS, 2 kills with no errors, 1 solo block, 11 digs, and 2 service aces with a 90.5% serve efficiency. I expect there will be a lot more to see of her in the coming season since her numbers suggest she can play a 6-rotation position pretty well. Excited to see what this season holds for her junior year.
Kiley Elgert (2024, RS)
Elgert only played 18 sets her freshman year but had 20 kills out of 66 attempts, 3 total blocks, 2 digs, and 6 out of 8 serves were good. Her kill efficiency was not great but settle her down, get her some touches and they may have a beast on their hands.
Also returning for the Wolverines will be Marin Frazee (2023, MH) and Allie Hansen (2022, DS). Sioux City West was second to last in their conference in 2020, but they have some players coming up who could complement the 5 seniors in the next season and it all comes down to the work and opportunities they will face and what they make of them. Good luck, Wolverines!
