We are down to the penultimate week of summer league, and teams are starting to show who might be the starting six plus one. Today’s breakdown is of a small private school on the east side of Indy named Scecina Memorial.
’23, Allison Daves, 5-9 RS/S
The entirety of this squad’s success starts and ends with Allison. In the front row, she’s a shot making lefty who has great vision and always seems to be the kid who can terminate at will. Once in the back row, however, she turns her attention to setting, and locates the ball well for her attackers. Although I like her as an attacker first, the setting portion of her skill set is nice to see.
’23, Cierra Lathrop, 5-4 DS/L
The first contact is always the most important, and Cierra is THE person the Crusaders will have to rely upon to do so. She’s can also do more than expected on defense, as her footwork keeps her from hitting the floor and seems to always be around the ball. She’s also lethal from behind the service line, and bombed away on teams all night. Quiet and unassuming, Cierra is a solid libero option for the next level.
’23, Abbey McCoy Abbey McCoy 5'9" | OH Scecina | 2023 State IN , 5-9 OH
Abbey is a six-rotation, heavy-armed attacker that is well-trained by the folks at the Academy. On the 16-1, she’s known for hammering the angle regularly, and will probably have some adjusting to do as she transitions back to the slower high school game. No nonsense at all times, she’s the other offensive option for Scecina, along with Miss Daves listed above.
’24, Natalie Bollenbacher, 5-5 S/DS
Another Academy-trained kid, Natalie is more known for her setting than defense, although she is an above-average defender compared to other setters in her class. I don’t have enough information to project her at this time, but on this night, Natalie was a three-rotation setter in a 6-2 that can set all options in the front row. All sets are hittable, and again, another no-nonsense kid that gets the job done.
