Day 3 Updates From Nevada
Day 3 provided fireworks on the 4th of July. The biggest news out of day three was one of the early favorites to win the whole thing, KC Power 16-1 didn’t make it out of pool play losing to Alamo 16 Premier in the first match, then losing to local foe Mavs KC 16-1 in three. In the rival match, Power took the first set before Mavs came roaring back to steal the second. The third was a back and forth with Mavs up as many as 3 late before Power clawed back to tie it at 13. After trading points, Mavs won it 18-16 on a ball that hit the antenna on a Power attack. Rockwood Thunder 16 Elite dropped their opening pool play match to TAV 16 Black in three and found themselves in a must-win situation against NE Elite 16 Top Gun. They needed a win, then they needed help from TAV to drop NE Elite. That’s exactly what happened and it took a marathon 21-19 3rd set to do their part. They didn’t get much recovery time as they went into another back and forth match in challenge play against OT 16 J Will. The contest was close with both teams winning a set by less than three points. Rockwood was able to get it done in the 3rd set to put them in the gold bracket. The National division saw PVA 16 Elite and Mavs 816 16-1 both earn their way to the challenge rounds. PVA dropped the 1st set before grabbing the 2nd 29-27. They would lose the 3rd set 15-10. In the Mavs match, they delivered a beat down in the 1st, 25-7 before losing a tight 25-23 match to force a 3rd. It was a close one, but they lost 15-12.
