It will be exciting to see some well-known names establishing themselves even more in the Lone Star state volleyball scene and some new faces breaking through and quickly emerging to earn the spaces.
Between now and the start of the high school season, at the beginning of August, we’ll highlight some players we believe are worth your attention when teams get back on the gym. As we remain at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 1A Division for another day, it’s time to highlight the liberos who carry the piano at the backcourt of their teams.
Kayden Arrington – HS: Blum – Club: NRG Volleyball – 2024
State Championship runners-up Blum found a special defensive talent last season in Kayden Arrington. The 5’3” libero was tremendous for the Lady Cats in her first season of high school volleyball and led their backcourt efforts with impressive 358 digs and 332 passes. A solid beach volleyball player too, Arrington had a solid game in the State Championship final against Neches, registering 15 digs and paving the way for the several awards she was about to win. She was including in the All-Tournament and was also part of the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State team in her freshman campaign.

Jackeline Avalos – HS: Leverett’s Chapel – 2024
Jackeline Avalos was another first-year libero who left a strong impression in her freshman year in the division. The defender did a great job with Leverett’s Chapel and didn’t shy away from her defensive duties with the team, leading the Lady Lions in passes with 425 and ranking second in digs with 321. Her solid first year of high school volleyball led her to receive an All-District second team nomination.
Alley Keen – HS: Fayeteville – 2022
Alley Keen will enter her final season of high school volleyball coming from her best year as part of Fayeteville’s team. The libero was extremely productive in the shortened 2020 season, having registered 213 digs, 196 passes and 66 aces for the Lady Lions. Keen thrives for her superior positioning and excellent ball control and will want to end her high school career on a high note.
