That being said, there’s a TON of talent coming back in multiple classes. There’s also some good news on the horizon—that Barr-Reeve (2A state champ), whom Tecumseh lost to in that regional final, is moving up to 3A for the next two years. Does this mean that the Braves have what it takes to get over that regional barrier?

You’re always in every match when your 1st team All-State honoree is returning. Fast, springy, and terminal in her attacks, this three-sport stud is the returning leader in kills, kills per set, attack percentage (.319) and blocks. She’s also a primary passer in serve receive and is top three in digs for the Braves. Although basketball seems to be Kaybree’s first love, her abilities in volleyball cannot be overlooked.
’23, Emily Yates, 5-9 OH/RS
Your leading server and #3 in kills returning next fall is an athletic outside that jumps and plays bigger than her 5-8 frame. Also a primary passer, Emily is an Evansville United kid, leading me to believe that her training is above average for other players in this region. She makes attacking high and hard look easy, and should be an important piece for the deep playoff run that the Braves need.
’23, Jaylin Boger, 5-11 MB
The “other” middle that teams don’t think about is another offensive option that brings size and length to the position. She can also step in in serve receive for her Metro club team, and can hit from anywhere. My guess is that she’s forced into the middle for high school, but can clearly play all three positions at the net. My projection for Jaylin is a pin attacker who, if needed, can be an M2 in a pinch at the next level.
’22, Emily Bogan, 5-6 DS/L
This softball stud is the heir apparent to the libero position at Tecumseh. Her footwork and speed are keys to her success, and should be considered a primary passer to take at least a little pressure off of Kaybree. Considering the size of her middles, I would like to see how Emily adjusts to defending off-speed shots. Her ability to watch hitters and anticipate off-speed shots is the last piece of her development.
’24, Payge Johnson, 5-8 S/OH
I list both positions because she can play both. For Tecumseh, however, she’s a setter through and through. She locates the ball well, her hands are high on contact, and moves the ball well for someone of her age and experience. Another Metro kid, Payge can step in as an attacker from time to time. In the case of what the Braves need, they may use her as a 6-2 setter this fall, and I would not be surprised if she never came out—hitting from the front and setting from the back looks like her comfort zone.
