Led by seven seniors, Coach Basile had his pick of what to do and how to do it. But, like all great things, it had to end. Moving forward, I’ve already seen a glimpse of what is in store for the rising youth in Fairland. Here’s my expectation.
’23, Maddy Brown Maddy Brown 5'6" | RS Triton Central | 2023 State IN , 5-6 RS/OH
Do NOT let her size fool you. This fast-twitch, quick attacker is a six-rotation player through and through, and will be hard-pressed to be replaced at any time in the fall. Although the left pin and DS reps lurk in her future, she’s a right side for the Tigers. Relentless behind the service line and at the net, Maddy is a no-nonsense attacker that has all of the shots a primary attacker should have. Her athleticism help her get to a ton more errant sets and make something out of nothing.
’23, Riley Ross Riley Ross 6'0" | MB Triton Central | 2023 State IN , 6-0 MB
The ONLY semblance of size on this squad, Riley is a heavy-armed, high-hitting middle that will give smaller teams fits in the fall. Her ability to take up space on the block and be quick enough to transition well are skills that most coaches covet in their middles. For Riley, it appears to come naturally, making Coach Basile’s job that much easier.
’24, Jadyn Capps Jadyn Capps 5'0" | DS/L Triton Central | 2024 State IN , 5-0 DS/L
If my life depended on it, I would not be able to tell you who is setting for the Tigers in a couple of weeks. However, I know whomever the setter is, they’ll be in good hands on the first contact with Jadyn. The returning digs leader for TC, Miss Capps is fast, quick, and anticipates better than most ’bros in this class. Maybe this is a team personality thing; I like her relentlessness and no-nonsense attitude to doing the small things. Personally, I don’t care if Jordyn Poulter is your setter—if you don’t have a reliable first contact, you have nothing. The Tigers will be fine for years to come at the libero position.
