The most intriguing thing about the Class of 2024 right now is that there is still a ton of time for these players to continue developing. Perhaps we’ll have to add more tall talents to this list in short order. In any case, the players in this feature have made quite an early impression.
Payton Petersen – 6’0 OH – Six Pack
There are few things better than having a big, physical left-side hitter to lead your team, and that’s exactly the kind of spark Petersen provides. Aside from being able to read opposing blocks well, Petersen also has the power to simply shred through hands across the net. The fluidity of her approach is evidence of a seasoned player who will only get better over the next few seasons of prep competition.
Mia Tubbs – 6’2 S/RS – Iowa Select
Tubbs is one of those prototypical do-everything players. She has the physicality of a hitter and the finesse of a setter. Maybe that’s because she can do both. Regardless of position, Tubbs makes a positive impact every time she steps on the court and wills her team to victory. You don’t see many true 6-2 setter-hitters at the club level, but this is a prospect that can comfortably take on both roles and succeed in doing so.
AvaMarie Densberger – 6’1 OH/RS – VCNebraska
Densberger is one of several Lincoln North Star products who have taken their talents to VCN for the club season. This outside hitter has had some impressive moments while playing on both pins over the last several months. Her blocking, too, has proven to be tough for opposing attackers to handle. Watch for Densberger’s development as she vies to become one of the top attackers in the capital city.
Avery Yosten Avery Yosten 6'1" | MB Norfolk Catholic | 2024 State NE – 6’1 OH/MB – Norfolk Catholic HS
Norfolk Catholic has an exciting roster for this fall’s high school season, and Yosten figures to be a major part of this team’s success. She’s another versatile utility player to make this list, as she can shift from the middle to the outside whenever necessary. Yosten’s heavy swings can fire her team up in an instant, and that might just boost Norfolk Catholic toward another appearance in the state title match this year.
Emma Parker – 6’0 OH/MB – Rockwood Thunder
Parker is an incredibly determined multi-sport athlete who doesn’t let anything slow her down. Her raw athleticism shows on the volleyball court, where she consistently puts down floor-denting kills from the left pin. Parker’s vast athletic experience has really helped her coordination. There is no wasted energy in her movements, and she uses her natural skills to become a go-to point scorer whenever she’s on the floor.
CeCe Young CeCe Young 6'0" | MB Maize South | 2024 State KS – 6’0 MB – Shockwave VBC
Shockwave had an impressive third-place finish in the USA division at GJNC, and Young was pivotal in making it happen. Running the slide is a specialty for this talented middle blocker. She stretches the offense from pin to pin with her lateral quickness and can hammer the ball off one foot. Young rounds out her game with some great technique when closing blocks. What a thrilling sparkplug for this Shockwave team.
