Finally, we’ve reached the 2024s. The variety within this class is spectacular. We have high school standouts, club stars, and a huge contingent of athletes that look poised for a breakout this fall. These players are no longer freshmen, and they’re looking to get on your radar after another year of high-level experience.
Before we get into the fine details of this new update, let’s take a look at a few broad trends to keep in mind.
Biggest Movers Yet
Looking back at the creation of these new 2024 rankings, it’s clear that this class has some of the highest risers we’ve seen from any of our rankings updates.
There are a few good reasons for this. With a class as young as the 2024s, everyone is still trying to discover and assess the entire talent pool within this group. Of course, not every freshman bursts onto the scene for their varsity team and dominates right out of the gate. Many talented 2024s are still waiting for their chance to contribute to a varsity roster.
This year’s club season provided an excellent opportunity to fill in some gaps, and this is where a lot of the big movers came from. We were able to scout some new names that thrived in a club setting against top competition. The new rankings seek to give credit to these big performers.
Little Movement at the Top
At this point, it was hard to move any of the athletes that we had near the top of our last 2024 rankings. These players have proven themselves time and time again.
The upper part of our rankings will always be permeable, though, and I think that’s reflected in a few of our new additions to the top ten. While we saw few changes in the first few spots, there are also some huge stock risers who used the club season to cement their place among the state’s best. The upcoming high school season will likely be a great chance to shake things up as more 2024s earn major reps.
High School and Club Representation
A lot of the big movers and new additions within the 2024 rankings hail from the same high school or club teams. Perhaps it’s a product of teammates making each other better.
VCNebraska now has a large footprint in this class. The success that VCN’s 15s teams saw this year warranted a rankings upgrade for many of the club’s talented players. Better yet, many of these players will stick together and represent the same high schools within the Lincoln area. We’ll have more details on these rising athletes in the days to come.
It’s Early!
This ought to be the message that echoes most of all. These 2024s still have so much time left!
We’ll see another year of high school and club competition before the recruitment of 2024s begins. Even when that time comes, there will still be so many more opportunities for this class to rise up the leaderboard. Rankings will always be adjusted accordingly.
That next update is not far away, either!
