The same can be said for some club tournaments earlier this season. The ability to see players live or on video proved crucial as we looked to update our rankings. We had many new faces in this August update and here are a handful of them.
Was PVA invisible last ranking?
As we took our first look at the rankings when taking over Kansas we immediately noticed a lot of names missing. Of the five players we highlight today, four of them called PVA their home last season.
Ava Martin Ava Martin 5'10" | S Bishop Miege | 2024 State #77 Nation KS – OH – St. Thomas Aquinas
We don’t know how the player many think is the top player in the class was left out of the previous rankings. It’s ok, we fixed it. An elite scorer on the pin, the Creighton commit is a baller. She can fill up the stat line with kills but has shown she is serviceable in all six rotations. When her team needs a point, she wants the ball. She will try to lead St. Thomas Aquinas to another state berth in 2021.
Rachel Ziesman Rachel Ziesman 6'1" | MB St. James | 2022 State KS – MB/RS – St. James
The physicality Ziesman brings to the court is what drew our attention. She hits a heavy ball and can make adjustments to find space on the floor. She moves well along the front row. Her ability to get blocks and affect shots this spring was huge to the team’s success. She will be depended on this fall to fill the scoring void at St. James.
Alyssa McDonald Alyssa McDonald 6'1" | RS Shawnee Mission South | 2022 State KS – MB/RS – Shawnee Mission South
McDonald had a breakthrough year in this her junior year. She is an athletic player which great upside. She is long and can swing from the middle or pins.
Davis Guetterman Davis Guetterman 5'6" | S Louisburg | 2022 State KS -S – Louisburg
When you had as many weapons as Guetterman had, you do your part by putting them in a position to be successful. She did that and more this spring for PVA . She has a high volleyball IQ and makes wise choices in-game action. She is aggressive and has great ball placement.
Peterson joins the rankings
We’ve watched Peterson for years dominate the right side in her pre and early-high school years for Dynasty. This is another name we were shocked to see missing from the 2022 rankings. She has shown she can score on either pin and has improved her play in the back row. We look forward to tracking her senior season at Mill Valley.
