Continue ReadingWe shared in our preview article we saw a lot of full game action this season between high school and club season. After a shortened 2020 club season, we were able to get a full year of volleyball and make some adjustments to our rankings. There are some players who basically, “showed out” this club season and earned a move up the rankings. Here are our players who made the largest rises in our updated rankings. Unfortunately, this writer wasn’t smart enough to capture the previous rankings before they were changed so I have to work a little off of memory, so here we go.
Kamryn Farris Kamryn Farris 5'10" | DS/L Lansing | 2022 State KS – L/DS – Lansing/KC Power
I think there was a minute Farris got lost in the “playing up” days of her career. There was a span she played up a division before settling in with her age group maybe during her 16s season. She is easily one of the top defensive players in the state and was rated way too low in the previous rankings. She has been stellar on her Lansing team, helping lead them to state over the last two seasons. She is a gusty defender with great length. She is also an asset in the service department.
Lauren Wheeler Lauren Wheeler 5'10" | S St. James Academy | 2021 State KS – S – St. James/Pohaku
It’s no surprise some of the players making this list played up on the club circuit over the years. Wheeler is one of those players who two years ago played up with Dynasty before making the move to Pohaku. She helped lead her 18-1 team to nationals in 2021. She returns to lead St James this fall with her poise and tremendous ball placement.
Brooke Leiker Brooke Leiker 6'0" | OH Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS – OH – Blue Valley West/Mavs KC
Leiker had a great high school season, helping lead Blue Valley West to top prize in Class 6A. She followed this up with a strong club season, where she continued to develop as a 6 rotation player. Her physicality is a plus at the net and her play earned her a trip into the top 10.
Mayamae Brown Mayamae Brown 5'9" | OH Andover | 2022 State KS – L/DS/OH – Andover/FIght Club
Brown is another player who plays up and gets lost in the shuffle at times. She had a strong year for Fight Club’s 18-1 team in her first year of indoor club volleyball in quite some time. Brown, the Arizona State beach commit is at her best defensively with great quickness and court awareness. Our recollection had her in the 70s or 80s and now in the top 25.
