Broken Arrow Tournament
Teams attending: 6A Norman North, 6A Jenks, 4A Regent Prep, 6A Booker T. Washington, 6A Edmond Memorial, 6A Bixby, and 6A Owasso.
Not hard to see why this is one of the toughest tournaments in the state by all who are attending. 6A #3 Broken Arrow, 6A #5 Edmond Memorial, 6A #6 Jenks, 6A #7 Owasso, 6A #9 Norman North, 6A #10 Bixby, 6A #16 BTW, and 4A #1 Regent Prep. There is a 100% chance of this tournament playing a huge role in how next week’s rankings turn out. It will show the state who deserves to be at the top of the rankings and who should host a region come playoff time.
Players to keep an eye on at this tournament: One of the top 2024 prospects, Carly Butler from Owasso. Rumors of her moving from MB to OH could give her a lot more touches on the ball and could really rack up kills in a hurry with her combination of vertical and arm speed. 2022 Setter from Owasso, Rylee Martin Rylee Martin 5'8" | S Owasso | 2022 State OK , can really fill up the stat book. She adds value to just about every aspect of the game since she is a 5-1 setter that also attacks often from the front row. Look for Regent to compete with some of the best of 6A and not back down. 2022 OH Beth Bayless Beth Bayless 6'1" | OH Regent Preparatory | 2022 State OK and 2023 OH Ella Drake Ella Drake 5'11" | OH Regent | 2023 State OK are a big part of their undefeated season thus far. Broken Arrow’s 2024 libero Averi Jones is gaining in on 100 digs for the season. She has played some high-level club for several seasons, so she has seen the speed that this level of play brings each night.
Lincoln Christian Tournament
Teams attending: 3A Chisholm, 4A Heritage Hall, 6A Bishop Kelley’s “red team”, 4A Inola, 6A Putnam City North, 4A Victory Christian, and 4A Oklahoma Christian School.
The Lincoln tournament will be a round-robin with bracket play at the end. This will give teams plenty of opportunities to get some wins added to their resume. A few of the teams in this tournament have a chance to really make a move in their individual classes if they can do well. Lincoln Christian, Inola, and Victory Christian are all currently in the top 10 of 4A. If any of these teams can get hot and get a win over one another, that could help slide them up the charts. Heritage Hall may have the most to gain, look for them to be a dark horse. They only have 2 wins this far and are ranked #11 but they have played against some pretty tough teams and all of their losses are to those who are ranked. If they can sneak up on a couple of teams this weekend, they could be setting themselves up to be inside the top 10 next week. OCS is in the same boat, they have only lost to 6A or top-ranked teams. They will be looking to make a name for themselves and get back into the top 10 next week.
Players to keep an eye on at this tournament: Saige Day 2024 OH and 2023 OH Sydney Biggs for the Inola Longhorns have been real impact players in terms of offense for them: Biggs with 22 aces, 187 digs, and 115 kills and Day with 31 aces, 174 digs, and 161 kills. 2024 MB Taylor Motes for Victory Christian has come in and helped relieve some pressure from Warlick and Wakley at the net.
