We have focused on bigger schools most weeks but we want to give love to those small schools too. They have top notch coaches and players that deserve recognition. We are looking at week #8 games that are big match ups and could help give team an extra boost going into the final weeks of rankings. We only have this weekend’s rankings left and the regional assignments will be based off of how each team finishes.
Rejoice Christian @ Oklahoma Union 09/30
Rejoice currently sits at #3 in class 3A, while OK Union is at #5. This will be a quality small school top five matchup! They have played two other times prior to this Thursday. Does Coach Briscoe have the Cougars number or will the third time be the charm to get revenge on the Eagles? Either way, look for this to be a well coached and intense match from start to finish.
Players to watch: 2024 OH Izzy Wilson has been a cornerstone for Rejoice Christian this season. She continues to be a reliable and consistent arm for their offense. 2023 setter Lexi Henson has really come along ways this season. She has worked hard to develop her game and it is showing. She has been a real tough cookie for other teams from the service line. She has a solid float serve that tends to fall off the table and gets the other team to overpass often, putting her team immediately back on the offense.
Verdigris @ Lincoln Christian 09/30
We have another small school top five matchup. We have #2 Verdigris in class 4A with a record of 23-9 and Lincoln Christian who is #4 with a record of 21-11. Both teams have 32 games under their belt, they are both done working out any kinks anymore but looking to survive and advance. Lincoln has been in the top five almost constantly the last four years, while Verdigris has continued building its way to the top. These teams have not played each other yet this season but it should have a state playoff type feel to it.
Players to watch: 2024 OH Paiton Tuggle is still the big gun for Lincoln. She has a big swing from both front and back row. Lincoln does not shy away from setting back row hitters. She does a great job in serve receive and in middle back on defense. 2023 MB Morgan Borgstadt has really helped bring a net presence to the Cardinal’s team. 2023 OH Logan Hamilton has been a rock they can rely on for a kill in big moments.
This will be our last “Games of the Week” for the high school season. This has been a great season for Oklahoma. We were able to get back to “normal” in terms of COVID and the effects it had on the teams seemed to be minimal. Thank you all for reading these articles. We look forward to writing some season recaps for some teams and some of the state’s top talent. Club volleyball will be here before we know it and we plan to have that covered for you as well.
