Continue ReadingThis year we were able to have a full tryout and pre/regular volleyball school season. The season is now in full swing and we couldn’t be more proud to see all of the action. We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to the Edmond Santa Fe High School volleyball team.
The Edmond Santa Fe Lady Wolves are coming off of a very great volleyball season in 6A last year as they made it all the way to the State Semifinals. They went 23-8 overall last season and were picked to be in the mix again for the title chase by everyone due to the senior leadership they had returning. Head Coach Will Ethridge has his hopes up in 6A and have been super competitive so far in this young season. We have written about some of these players before and will be introducing you to a few more on their roster who are turning heads. Here is a little from our recent articles about them if you need to remember who they are:
Madison Edwards Madison Edwards 6'0" | MB Edmond Santa Fe | 2022 State OK [2022] 6-0 Middle (HS: Santa Fe/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Madison is currently ranked as our 22nd best overall prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays for Santa Fe High School and a one of the best club programs in the state in Oklahoma Peak Performance. Madison is a very talented middle that is a big weapon for both teams she plays for. She has one of the fastest arm swings in the age group and hits the ball with authority. The best aspect is her ability to run every single route on the middle route tree with speed and agility. She would be a great fit for any college program in the middle or a pin position. She stops on a dime during transition and drives hard toward her setter to hit the quick attack. She has college level power and athleticism and deserves a couple of looks from the next level. This young lady has the ability to move up the rankings with her continued high-level play. Please help us congratulate her on achieving such great accomplishments of being a top player in the state. We have been watching as she routinely punishes the overpasses that come her way. She has also been a kill machine for Santa Fe so far.
Abiana Miraku Abiana Miraku 5'6" | S Santa Fe | 2022 State OK [2022] 5-6 Setter (HS: Santa Fe/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Abiana is currently ranked as our 24th best overall prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is the floor general for Santa Fe High School and she also plays club for the awesome Oklahoma Peak Performance program. She is a small setter but extremely fast and tracks the ball down very well to keep her squad in-system. She is one of the 6-2 setters for OP2 that keeps the high-octane offense moving. I love how athletic she is and how she is able to jump set and still push the ball to her quick attack hitters. She has great soft hands with a very quick consistent release. She is not a liability in the back row as she plays great defense in the right back position. Please help us congratulate her on being one of the best volleyball players in the state. We are excited to have her in our Prep Dig Family and look forward to watching her senior season. So far she has been “Acing” all of the tests. She has a wicked serve that has been stifling opposing teams. Miss Miraku has quite a few great hitters to distribute the ball to and she has been doing a fantastic job so far.
Audrey Bird Audrey Bird 5'11" | MB State OK [2023] 5-11 Middle (HS: Santa Fe/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Audrey is currently ranked as our 21st best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays for Edmond Santa Fe High School and also club for Oklahoma Peak Performance. She drives her feet extremely hard toward her setter during her approach. It is refreshing to see a young middle operate that way as it will help her stay potent offensively. Her long arms make her a threat on both ends of the game. She has a super strong upper body and we love how she uses it to score for her teams. Miss Bird has every chance to move up the rankings with her amazing offensive skill-set. Out of the middle she can hit toward both zones with power and that makes it very difficult for any opposing middle to stop her. We are excited to have her in our Prep Dig Family and look forward to watching her junior season. Please help us congratulate her on the honor she just earned.
Addison Banes Addison Banes 5'5" | DS/L Edmond Santa Fe | 2023 State OK [2023] 5-5 Libero (HS: Santa Fe/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Addison is currently ranked as the 27th best overall prospect in the 2023 class but that will change once we update the rankings in a few months. She is a solid libero that plays for both Santa Fe high school and also club for the amazing OP2 program. This young lady shows great dexterity in the position. I like how active she is in left back while both in defense and covering her hitters. Her arms show a very soft touch on the ball whether hit directly at her or outside of her body. She will be looked at to keep her team in every rally during the tough conference matches and heading into the state playoff. We are expecting great things from her in the future.
Allison Pope [2022] 5-10 Outside (HS: Santa Fe/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Allison is an unranked prospect in the 2022 class but that will absolutely change the next time that we update the rankings in a few months. She brings a wealth of offensive prowess for the Lady Wolves varsity team. Miss Pope regularly records double-digit kills and is a huge contributor in the serve receive department. We love the power that she possesses in the magical right arm. If Santa Fe goes far this season, Allison will be a big reason why. She can score from a variety of different locations. The one aspect that is fun to watch is when she kills the ball so hard over and over and then uses an off-speed shot or tip to score next. I guarantee it frustrates the defense as they just can’t stop her offense. Stay tune for more from Miss Pope as the season continues.
Katelyn Branson Katelyn Branson 5'6" | OH Santa Fe | 2022 State OK [2022] 5-6 Outside (HS: Santa Fe/Club: Rise/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Katelyn is an unranked prospect in the 2022 class. She is a true competitor on the vball court as she is able to play multiple positions. We have seen her hit on the left side pin and also dig in the back row. Don’t sleep on her size as this young lady has the heart of a lion and the lower body to pounce like one also. She gains a lot of momentum in her approach and uses her leg muscles to get her as high as she can in order to still hit at a high level and score at the varsity and club level. You would not expect that much power to come off of her arms when she hits the ball but if you are on the defending end, you better watch out. This young lady packs a serious punch. We are excited to cover her senior season.
We like them because they are led by a ton of senior players who have lots of experience. Last year they breezed through the regional tourney and then beat out Norman North in the State tourney only to lose in the State Semifinals to Mustang High. They have some unfinished business to prove themselves in the State Tourney. They have some unfinished business this season and are hungry to avenge that loss. The OSSAA has them ranked number two overall in 6A after three weeks of action as they are currently 13-3 overall. We will be watching very closely to see how it all plays out.
