One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.
We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person. Now join us as we take a look at the Memorial Mustangs.
Memorial Mustangs
Coached by Kaddie Platt, the Mustangs represent the Memorial High School, which competes in the 6A Class, Region III – District 17. The team lost virtually its entire starting lineup from last year to graduation and is figuring out a new system and adjusting to it, having won 11 and lost 12 of the matches they played so far.

Players to Watch:
Ashley Sadler – Outside Hitter – Club: Houston Skyline – 2024
One of the most explosive and intense players of the Mustangs’ roster, Ashley Sadler brings a lot of power at the pin with her length. The outside hitter puts a lot of energy and intention in everything she does on the court and is really efficient when it comes to scoring points, be it hitting the ball straight to the floor or tooling the block. She’s the team’s top scorer so far in the season with 75 kills and also does a lot of the hard work on the backcourt, ranking second in both digs (71) and passes (134).
Megan Xie – Libero – Club: Houston Skyline – 2022
An extremely technical player, Megan Xie does a great job as Memorial’s libero. The 5’6” prospect is very calm on the ball and benefits from her great positioning to make several digs every match. Her ball control is off-the-charts and there’s no lose ball that Xie cannot track and put back in play. Extremely confident, she leads the team in digs (171) and passes (167).
Caroline Howell – Setter – Club: Houston Juniors – 2022
A technical and intelligent player, Caroline Howell runs Memorial’s offense with ease. She plays a fairly simple, but tremendously efficient game and is one of those setters who uses all her hitters. Averaging 7.7 assists per set so far in the season, the left-handed Howell plays solid defense and is a dangerous server. She has great size for the position at 5’10” and can make an impact at the net as well.
