Continue ReadingWe needed a little more time to finish up our research on how all 16 teams fared at the Lee’s Summit West Missouri/Kansas Challenge last weekend. We weren’t able to get our hands on pool results and brackets, so we needed to dig a little deeper. We shared earlier this week St. Thomas Aquinas walked away as champions defeating Liberty North in the semis, then Liberty in the championship. Here is a breakdown on the remaining eight teams we didn’t highlight in our first article.
Blue Springs had a favorable showing on the day dropping St. Teresa’s Academy and beating Shawnee Mission Northwest in a three set battle. They would lose to eventual champion St. Thomas Aquinas and reigning Kansas 6A state champion Blue Valley West. Chloe Kaminski Chloe Kaminski 5'9" | DS/L Blue Springs | 2022 State #115 Nation MO and Kayleigh Jenkins were effective offensively.
St. Teresa’s also went .500 on the day with wins over Bishop Miege and Blue Valley West in three. As mentioned previously, they suffered defeats to Blue Springs and also Shawnee Mission Northwest. No stats have been entered from their weekend as of date.
Since we’ve mentioned Shawnee Mission Northwest a couple times now let’s look into their overall weekend. We know they loss to Blue Springs and beat St. Teresa’s Academy. The now 19-4 Cougars also beat Lee’s Summit West and Blue Valley West before losing to Liberty in bracket play. Tori Creason Tori Creason 5'9" | S Shawnee Mission NW | 2023 State KS was solid running the show all weekend. Vivian Kieffer Vivian Kieffer 5'6" | DS/L Shawnee Mission Northwest | 2022 State KS was lights out defensively.
Blue Valley West went 3-2 on the day losing to St. Teresa’s and Shawnee Mission Northwest. They found victories over Blue Springs, Park Hill South, and Blue Springs South. Brooke Leiker Brooke Leiker 6'0" | OH Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS and Taylor Stockman Taylor Stockman 5'11" | OH Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS led the offensive charge. Freshman Lily Wedman continues to impress from the setter position.
The Panthers of Park Hill South was able to scrape out a win over Blue Valley in three for their sole win of the day. They haven’t updated their stats from the tournament. One of the teams they were defeated by was host Lee’s Summit West. The Titans were the lone team to give St. Thomas Aquinas a loss in three sets. They were dropped by Shawnee Mission Northwest in bracket play. Sydney Handel Sydney Handel 5'10" | OH Lee's Summit West | 2022 State MO was on fire throughout the weekend and got offensive help from Kaelyn McDonald Kaelyn McDonald 6'0" | RS Lee's Summit West | 2022 State MO and Kenzie Kennicutt.
Blue Valley went three with Lee’s Summit West dropping a close one. They were able to knock off Carthage to get their one win of the day. No stats for Blue Valley. Last but not least, Blue Springs South. The Jaguars went 2-3 on the day getting wins over Bishop Miege and Lee’s Summit. Tori Valentine Tori Valentine 5'11" | OH Blue Springs South | 2023 State MO was a bright spot on the day from the pin.
