So it’s time to give some recognition who really caught our eyes this week. These four ladies left it all on the court and deserve every ounce of praise they are getting. Let’s take a look.
Sofia Fernandez (Montville)
Montville is off to a tough start through five matches but it isn’t because of the play of Fernandez. She was absolutely sensational this past week with 35 kills and 25 digs in two matches against top-level competition in Chatham and Roxbury. She can punish you from anywhere and is a complete player.
Mackenzie Bloss Mackenzie Bloss S St. John Vianney | 2022 State NJ (St. John Vianney)
When you think of St. John Vianney, your mind directly goes towards Bloss. The senior setter can make every pass in the book and does it with pinpoint accuracy. In five matches this past week, she averaged 16 assists per match while leading the squad to a 4-1 record.
Sam Wilton (North Hunterdon)
Wilton is the unsung hero for North Hunterdon on the back line as she can make all the passes and covers so much ground. She had 32 digs in three matches but she arguably had the performance of the week with 21 digs in a victory over Southern.
Ashanna Caviness Ashanna Caviness MB Bogota | 2023 State NJ (Bogota)
Lastly, we have Caviness for Bogota who has stepped up in a major way to take control of being the number 1 option after a couple years of being out of the spotlight. She hasn’t disappointed with 39 kills in three matches this past week. But what has impressed me is that she is now contributing defensively too as a full-rotation player.
