It look place in Montclair in a rivalry matchup which was a great match that went three sets between Montclair and Montclair Kimberly. I’ll tell you right now that this player is one I missed and should be on the Prep Dig Class of 2023 rankings.
Montclair Kimberly’s undefeated season was in jeopardy and what happens other than Samiyah Abdur Rahim utterly takes over the match. She finished the night with 27 kills! Yes, 27 kills and for good measure she had 12 digs and 5 aces. She got off to a fast start in the first set and the team just continued to feed her the ball as she was on from start to finish. You could tell she was going to do everything she could to ensure victory for the squad.
Abdur Rahim had everything going with her swing showing her versatility going cross-court, down the line, tips, rolls, etc. She could do no wrong yesterday from an offensive standpoint. But that was not all as she was solid defensively playing as an all-around outside hitter.
She has been playing for Montclair Kimberly’s varsity squad for all three years in her high school career. The junior has continued to grow and improve on her game in every statistical category, every season. Her biggest step forward has been her serve as she already has basically doubled her total from last season.
Montclair Kimberly have a dynamic one-two punch with her and Hailey Fouche Hailey Fouche 5'11" | OH Montclair Kimberley | 2023 State NJ . They compliment each other extremely well but it has been Abdur Rahim who has taken over the reigns as the number one option for them. She recorded double-digit kills in every match except one so far this season.
She still has a year remaining and if her breakout performance is any indication that she is going to be extremely difficult to stop and I would not be surprised if she gets an opportunity at the next level somewhere.
