Continue ReadingA lot of things can define the success of a volleyball player’s high school career. Winning titles is certainly one of them, even though it can sometimes tell more about the strength of a group of players together than about someone’s particular skills or level of play.
Individual milestones tend to reflect more the specific play or production of certain players and several of them have been able to accomplish those in the still early days of the high school season in the state of Texas.
Here are three of these players who reached some special numbers for their teams this past week:
Holly Miller – Setter – HS: Steele – Club: Tri-County Volleyball Association – 2023
A setter for the Steele Lady Knights from Cibolo, in the San Antonio area, Holly Miller has recently surpassed the mark of 1,000 assists in her high school career. The 5’8” playmaker hit that mark over the weekend, during a 2-1 victory against Weatherford in the popular Volleypalooza tournament. Miller, who still has another year of high school volleyball ahead of her, is currently at 1,084 assists, having a career average of 4.9 per set.
Tonight we celebrated @hollymller for reaching 1,000 career assists in our win vs. Weatherford @Volleypalooza1 ⚔️🏐🖤 Congrats Holly!!!!! We are so proud of you! pic.twitter.com/maBtJpbDHr

Kyla Malone – Outside Hitter – HS: Canyon – Club: San Antonio Juniors – 2022
At the neighbor New Braunfels, Kyla Malone was the one to reach a significant milestone as the Canyon High School prospect tallied the 1,000th kill of her career in a straight-set victory against Dripping Springs on Tuesday. A 5’10” hitter, Malone is very versatile and can play anywhere at the net, but is typically deployed by the Cougars as an outside hitter. She has accumulated 1,003 kills in four years of play for Canyon so far, averaging three per set, and is on pace for her most productive season ever in 2021, with 337 kills registered in 74 sets (4.6 per set). Malone is a University of the Incarnate Word commit.

Paige Mooney Paige Mooney 5'8" | DS/L Eaton | 2022 State #131 Nation TX – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist – HS: V.R. Eaton – Club: Texas Image – 2022
The V.R. Eaton Lady Eagles already had plenty of reasons to celebrate in a season in which they won all but one of their 21 matches so far, but senior Paige Mooney Paige Mooney 5'8" | DS/L Eaton | 2022 State #131 Nation TX just added to it by registering the 1,000th dig of her volleyball career in a five-set victory against Mansfield on Tuesday. A 5’8” outside hitter, Mooney could possibly reach 1,000 kills and passes for team from the Fort Worth area this season as well, but has on her backcourt game the skills that attracted Texas Tech, where she’ll play at the collegiate level.
Congratulations Paige M for surpassing 1,000 career digs as an Eagle. We’re so proud of you! @paigemooneyyy pic.twitter.com/vDFtENu53N
