Kate Shafer (2025, S)
Kate is setting lights out to her offensive counterpart, Molly Shafer, for Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont so far this season. She is a 6′ setter who has thrown up 216 well-placed assists in 26 sets, with 10 kills and a .348 efficiency, 8 total blocks, 46 digs, and a team-high 18 service aces with a 93% serve efficiency so far. Did I mention she is a freshman?! What an amazing player to have starting her high school season with so much success. Congrats, Rockets!
Madelyn Norton Madelyn Norton 5'8" | S Dike-New Hartford | 2023 State IA (2023, S)
Madelyn is a 5’9″ setter for the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines and has had an amazing start to the 2021 season. She has put up 239 assists, 25 kills with a .273 kill efficiency, 6 total blocks, 2.7 DPS, and a team-high 12 service aces with a 92.1% serve efficiency. All of this has been done playing some really impressive teams so far this season giving her team a 10-0 run at the beginning of the season and winning the Ankeny Centennial Early Bird Tournament. Their next match is against Red Oak in the Shirley Ryan Tournament on Saturday.
Carlee Smith Carlee Smith 5'8" | S West Delaware | 2022 State IA (2022, S/OH)
Carlee is a 5’6″ setter for West Delaware and has 210 assists, 27 kills with a .361 kill efficiency, 3 total blocks, 29 digs, and 5 service aces with a 96.4% serve efficiency to start her senior season. She has great parity as a setter and mainly throws it to Alivia Schulte Alivia Schulte 5'7" | OH West Delaware | 2023 State IA (2023, OH) with 81 kills and .292 efficiency, Jaci Bries (2022, MH/OH) with 48 kills and .333 efficiency, or Allie Demmer (2022, MH/RS) with 35 kills and .346 efficiency. West Delaware is starting their season off with a 9-1 record with their only loss coming at the hands of Dike-New Hartford so far. They have beat Wapsie Valley, Independence twice, Janesville, Alburnett, Benton, Starmont, Linn-Mar, and Williamsburg. West Delaware plays after the holiday weekend against Marion at home.
Brooke Smith (2022, S/OH)
Brooke is a 5’10” setter who plays for Spirit Lake and has had 198 assists so far this season along with 30 kills with a .568 kill efficiency, 6 total blocks, 27 digs, and 10 service aces with a 90.4% serve efficiency. Another setter with great parity, Smith spreads her love around the court to four potential hitters in Elsie Parriott (2022, OH/MH) with 49 kills and .342 efficiency, Lauren Carlson (2023, OH) with 49 kills and .348 efficiency, Emma Henrickson (2023, OH/MH) with 39 kills and .270 efficiency, or Mackenzie Kauffman (2023, RS ) with 36 kills out of 79 total attempts. She is a hard-working setter making her mark on her team’s season. So far this season the Indians have beat LeMars, Grand View Christian, and Fort Dodge. They next play Algona at the Algona Tourney this holiday weekend.
Ashlyn Badding Ashlyn Badding 5'7" | S Carroll-Kuemper | 2023 State IA (2023, S)
Ashlyn is a 5’7″ setter for Kuemper Catholic and so far this season has 195 assists, 5 kills, 1 total block, 56 digs, 12 service aces with a 92.6% serve efficiency playing in only 23 sets so far in the 2021 season. Ashlyn is another setter on this list with great parity in her sets. She can put it anywhere and her favorite targets are Kenzie Schon (2022, OH) with 46 kills, Frannie Glynn (2024, MH/RS) with 44 kills and .272 efficiency, Sophie Badding Sophie Badding 5'11" | MB Carroll-Kuemper | 2023 State IA (2023, MH) with 43 kills and .262 efficiency, and Kamryn Venner (2022, RS/DS) with 37 kills. The Knights have a record of 4-4 at this point of the season suffering losses to Glenwood, Red Oak, Humboldt, and South Hardin, with wins over Spirit Lake, South Central Calhoun, Grand View Christian, and Fort Dodge. The Knights play Clarinda and Denison-Schleswig following the holiday weekend.
