Teams attending: 6A Broken Arrow, 6A Southmoore, 6A Sand Springs, 6A Booker T. Washington, 6A Ponca City, 6A Edmond Memorial, 6A Owasso, and the #1 ranked team in all of Arkansas, Springdale Har-Ber.
Pool A consists of: Edmond Memorial, Owasso, Sand Springs, and Ponca City. Pool B: Broken Arrow, BTW, Southmoore and Har-Ber.
Pool A will start with a rematch from last week’s Heather Harkness tournament with Edmond Memorial and Sand Springs. Memorial won big the first set 25-7, but the Sandites came back and made the second set a barn burner at 31-33. Ponca city will be looking for their first win of the season against 3 opponents they have not yet seen this season. Owasso is coming back from a 5-1 trip to the KSA tournament in Florida. They will look to beat Edmond Memorial and Sand Springs to win the pool. They have beat both teams earlier in the year. Edmond Memorial is coming off a 4th place finish this past weekend.
Pool B will start with Broken Arrow playing Southmoore, who upset them last season in the Norman tournament. BTW will be looking to get another quality win or two under their belt. Broken Arrow will look to get revenge with Southmoore, beat BTW for the second time this season and battle with another Arkansas Juggernaut to win pool B. Har-Ber will be trying to extend their win streak from 12 to 15 wins to start the year.
Players to keep an eye on at this tournament: Joeci Hunt Joeci Hunt 5'5" | DS/L Edmond Memorial | 2022 State OK , 2022 Libero and 2022 OH Annie Davis for the Ed Memorial Bulldogs will look to get their 3rd All-Tournament selection each and continue setting the tone for their team. Davis can really put a ball away, even in out of system situations. Hunt is quick and covers up a lot of ground in the back row. 2024 MB Carley Butler will look to continue being a force up front for Owasso. 2022 Libero Charley Fahland is also looking for her 3rd straight all tournament pick for Sand Springs. Mackenzie McGuire Mackenzie McGuire 6'2" | OH Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK will continue being one of the best players in the state. Most teams won’t stop her but they will need to try and slow her down. The top 5 hitters for Har-Ber are all hitting above a .256 each. 2022 OH Kyla Clubb leads them with 90 kills in 12 matches.
Cache Tournament
Teams attending: 4A Wagoner, 4A Cache, 4A Oklahoma Bible Academy, 5A Newcastle, 5A Elgin, 5A Duncan, 4A Tuttle, and 3A Community Christian.
This will shape up to be a solid smaller school tournament. Community Christian has only lost one match this season and is currently ranked #2 in the state. OBA sits at #8 and trying to hold the final spot to host a regional. Cache is at #9 and would love to take that last spot from OBA. Duncan at #13 and Newcastle at #16 have both been slowly working their way up the 5A rankings. This tournament could help either team continue that trend. Tuttle and Elgin are just outside the top 16 rankings this week at #17 and #19 in their classes.
Players to keep an eye on at this tournament:
2024 OH Landry Braziel Landry Braziel 6'0" | OH Community Christian | 2024 State OK from Community Christian is a special player. She will have two more years after this to continue to develop and that could be trouble for 3A. She can hit a variety of shots and has some really solid power behind her swing. The Elgin Owls will look to 6’2 2022 MB Lillian Young Lillian Young 6'2" | MB Elgin | 2022 State OK to try and slow down opponents and keep her team in the hunt for the tournament title. 2022 MB Channing Apel Channing Apel 5'10" | MB Community Christian | 2022 State OK has also been a weapon for Community Christian and someone who could help them win the tournament. The middle blockers for OBA have been a stout wall to hit around, made up of 2022 Zoe Holmes and Reese Westrope. They have plagued opposing hitters all season.
