Since the season started, we’ve run series highlighting the players who are standing out in Washington separating them by division, class or position. Now, with two months of play in the books, we’ll start being a little bit more specific, and give a shoutout to some prospects who barely missed the cut on those first pieces.
Let’s take at three liberos who might be the unsung heroes in their teams at the 2A division for the hard work they do on the backcourt:
Liz Hurn – HS: Woodland – 2022
The Southern region of the state of Washington is well-known for the high level of volleyball players it produces and Liz Hurn has been able to stand out in such a competitive environment. The 5’3” Woodland libero has been one of best in the area and hasn’t slowed down even a bit in her final year with the Beavers. Her importance to the team is bigger than ever and her season totals are currently at 189 digs (5.3 per set) and 200 passes.
Taylor Albert – HS: Steilacoom – Club: Puyallup Juniors – 2022
Taylor Albert has been a stud for Steilacoom over the years. The 5’7” libero has long been part of the team’s core and her role grew even more important this season, her last in high school volleyball. An All-League second-team selection in the Sentinels’ last campaign, she received an important shoutout right before the start of the current season, being included in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America High School Watchlist, and responded extremely well, with 206 digs (4.3 per set) and 17 aces so far.
Adria Ray – HS: Burlington-Edison – 2023
Adria Ray is definitely one of the key pieces of Burlington-Edison’s strong defensive system. The 5’5” defender has been putting on one great performance after another and has been extremely effective with her play for the Lady Tigers. Ray leads her team, one of the most successful in the entire state this season, in digs (310 – 4.3 per set) and passes (217) and also ranks third in aces (27).
