Continue ReadingThere was a lot of expectation for the start of the 2021 high school volleyball season in the state of Washington and, after nearly two months of intense action across the Evergreen State, it’s easier now to understand the bigger picture.
Since the season started, we’ve run series highlighting the players who are standing out in Washington separating them by division, class or position. Now, with two months of play in the books, we’ll start being a little bit more specific, and give a shoutout to some prospects who barely missed the cut on those first pieces.
Today we’ll highlight three outside hitters from the 2B Division who are contributing to their teams’ success in a variety of ways.
Sarah Neighbors – HS: Northwest Christian – 2022
Sarah Neighbors has joined Northwest Christian this season coming from California and has immediately become a key piece for the Lady Crusaders. An athletic, 5’10” outside hitter, she has been extremely prolific on offense, having registered 190 kills already. Her defensive numbers are in about the same range, though, as she’s produced 163 digs and 168 passes to go with 36 aces.
Sarah Cook – HS: La Conner – 2022
Sarah Cook is another great example of a player who fills the stats sheet every time she steps on the court. Despite being 5’6” and playing alongside one of the best hitters in the entire state in Ellie Marble, Cook also gets a fair number of sets going her way and has produced well from them, having registered 187 kills so far. Her value for La Conner is probably even higher on the backcourt, where she’s generated 266 digs, 183 passes and 63 aces.
Morgan McGuire – HS: Brewster – 2024
Morgan McGuire is another outside hitter who has reached triple digits in two skills. The 5’8” Brewster prospect currently has 113 kills and 112 digs and will soon hit the mark in passes as well, as her count is at 98 in that category right now. Add to it the fact that she’s a freshman and it’s easy to conclude the Lady Bears will have a highly-productive player to build around for years to come.
