St. John Vianney Takes Down Donovan Catholic
Second-seeded St. John Vianney knocked off top-seeded Donovan Catholic 23-25, 25-20, 25-17 on their way to a Shore Conference title. In a day where both teams had their semifinal match beforehand those matches went the distance as well, both squads played with an intensity.
How did St. John Vianney prevail? Behind their superstar in Mackenzie Bloss Mackenzie Bloss S St. John Vianney | 2022 State NJ who filled the entire stat sheet with 7 kills, 11 digs and 23 assists. She was unstoppable and carried the load on both ends. Dana Welch had 12 kills and 4 digs for Donovan Catholic in defeat.
Mainland Rallies Past Absegami
Mainland came from behind to become the champions of the Cape Atlantic League Tournament as they took down Absegami 24-26, 25-16, 25-23. Isabella Canesi Isabella Canesi 5'11" | OH Mainland | 2022 State NJ led the way with 14 kills while Cadence Fitzgerald added 27 assists, five blocks and seven aces.
Jackie Fortis tallied team highs of 13 kills and 10 digs in defeat for Absegami.
Bergen Tech Stuns Gloucester Tech
In potentially the most surprising result out of the finals yesterday was Bergen Tech sweeping Gloucester Tech 25-19, 25-21 in the Tech Tourney Final. Bryanna Purisima Bryanna Purisima 5'5" | DS/L Bergen Tech | 2023 State NJ tallied team highs of 17 digs and six aces while Kaitlyn Acevedo finished with 19 assists and four kills for Bergen Tech.
Alexis Caltabiano had six kills and eight digs in defeat for Gloucester Tech.
