Anyway, two tournaments I highlighted last week I think I did pretty well up to bracket play. One of them even got the finals right but Blue Valley North said, “not so fast” and took down Mill Valley in the championship to claim the Janice Van Gorp Volleyball Classic. Both sets went 25-21. The Mustangs are now 22-2 on the year. Lawrence Free State had a strong showing throughout the day. Heritage Christian suffered their first two losses of the year but don’t expect it to be a habit once they return to class play. They were competitive and can definitely hold their own.
On the other side of the state line in Blue Springs, Liberty North took care of business winning the title. They took down our pick in St. Thomas Aquinas in three sets before downing Fayetteville in the finals. Isabel Zimmerman Isabel Zimmerman 6'2" | RS Liberty North | 2022 State #30 Nation MO went off for 14 kills in the finale. Besides Fayetteville and St. Thomas Aquinas, Nixa had a strong day.
Silver Lake High School in Kansas got their third tournament win of the season to up their record to 22-7 on the year. They didn’t drop a set in the tournament. A couple of their defeats this year come to very strong Lansing and Spring Hill teams, which should prime them for a strong post-season run.
Staying in Kansas, Basehor-Linwood captured the top prize at the Ottawa Tournament. They had to defeat Bishop Miege, Ottawa, Olathe West, and Louisburg along the way. Mila Seaton Mila Seaton 5'9" | OH Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS is a name now on our radar after a 24 kills performance against Ottawa. The Bobcats are now 20-6.
Probably the second hottest team we cover claimed the Spring Hill Tournament, that is the Lansing Lions. The winners of 24 straight haven’t lost since their opening match of the year. They swept their way through the day except for a three-set battle against Spring Hill.
