The teams in this sectional are outstanding and their matchups on the road to state result in some truly incredible volleyball. Here are your D1 Regional Champions from Sectionals 5 and 6.
All rankings are based on the team’s seed in their respective sectional.
Germantown (#1 Seed)
Germantown is on a roll this season, winning the Greater Metro Conference and going 29-6 so far. Lily Wagner Lily Wagner 5'11" | OH Germantown | 2023 State #118 Nation WI (Committed to Liberty) is their top hitter and is incredibly explosive at the net. She can execute from anywhere on the court and is great in and out of system. Madelyn Weyda Madelyn Weyda 5'10" | DS/L Germantown | 2022 State WI is another highly efficient pin hitter for the Warhawks. You can’t talk about the success of this team without talking about senior setter Maddie Connor Maddie Connor S Germantown | 2022 State WI . She runs this offense like a well-oiled machine and is impactful in every single rotation and on every play. Junior libero/DS Sadie Olson averages 3.8 digs per set and is consistent in serve receive as well.
Brookfield Central (#4 Seed)
Central will match up with Germantown in the sectional semi-final. Mckenna Wucherer Mckenna Wucherer 6'1" | OH Brookfield Central | 2022 State #1 Nation WI (Committed to Minnesota) and Morgan Daugherty Morgan Daugherty 6'2" | MB Brookfield Central | 2022 State #200 Nation WI (Committed to Marquette) are both incredibly explosive on offense. Emily Lavin (2023) is a very reliable pin hitter and has nearly 250 kills this season. She plays tough defense and is consistent for her team. Tatum Kebisek Tatum Kebisek 5'9" | S Brookfield Central | 2022 State WI (2022) is an efficient and smart setter. She has 936 assists this season and 3,715 career assists and utilizes her offensive weapons well. Libero Riley Angst Riley Angst 5'9" | DS/L Brookfield Central | 2023 State WI plays scrappy defense and keeps the ball alive for this explosive and talented offensive team.
Hamilton (#3 Seed)
Hamilton is coming off of a huge 2020 season where they won the regular season State Championship. This year they have a 30-12 record and some great leaders stepping up. Junior pin hitter Sylvie Zgonc Sylvie Zgonc 5'11" | OH Sussex Hamilton | 2023 State #115 Nation WI has an explosive approach and is aggressive at the net. She leads the team in kills and service receptions and has the second most digs. Fellow pin hitters Mya Trafficante Mya Trafficante 5'7" | OH Sussex-Hamilton | 2023 State WI (2023) and Eva Finnessy (2025) are also highly impactful players who get a lot of touches on offense and defense for this team. Tatum Baldwin Tatum Baldwin S Hamilton | 2022 State WI brings years of experience on the court and has been a great leader for this team. So has libero Trisha Shankar Trisha Shankar 5'4" | DS/L Hamilton | 2022 State WI who is dynamic and fast on defense.
DSHA (#2 Seed)
DSHA is an incredibly dynamic team. They run tempo balls extremely well and are explosive at the net. Freshman 6 rotation outside hitter Madison Quest has been the talk of this team. She leads the team in kills and is outstanding in defense, serving, and serve receive as well. Julia Wojciak Julia Wojciak 6'1" | MB DSHA | 2022 State WI (2022), Sophia Wendlick Sophia Wendlick 6'0" | OH DSHA | 2024 State #100 Nation WI (2024), and Kara Schmit Kara Schmit 5'8" | OH DSHA | 2022 State WI are all very impactful on offense as well. Julia has also brought in over 100 blocks this season. Setter Paige Yelmene Paige Yelmene 5'8" | S DSHA | 2022 State WI (2022) has fast hands and is very talented at reading opposing blocks. She moves the ball around efficiently and sets her hitters up for success. This team is scrappy on defense and has a lot of highly impactful players who contribute to their success.
Burlington (#1 Seed)
The Demons have only lost 4 matches this season and all to very talented opponents. Ella Safar Ella Safar 5'9" | S Burlington | 2024 State WI is a major player on this team with over 700 assists and 71 aces. She is fast, tricky to read, and very consistent. Junior libero Molly Berezowitz Molly Berezowitz DS/L Burlington | 2023 State WI is insanely scrappy on the court. She covers a lot of space in the back row and is an energizer and leader on this team. This offense has a number of impactful athletes including Lydia Biggin Lydia Biggin 5'10" | RS Burlington | 2022 State WI (2022), Kenna Kornely (2023), and Abby Alan Abby Alan 6'0" | MB Burlington | 2023 State WI . Abby also leads the team in blocking and has some great momentum-changing plays for the Demons.
Westosha Central (#5 Seed)
Westosha upset the #4 seed Janesville Craig in four sets last week to earn their Regional Champion title. They have had a very successful season led by senior captain and pin hitter Lauren Foerster Lauren Foerster 5'10" | OH Westosha Central | 2022 State WI (Committed to Findlay) who has contributed 331 kills, 77 aces, 167 digs, and 463 service receptions. Junior pin hitter Karis Bridleman is also very dynamic and is one of the go-to hitters on this team. Karis also has a hugely positive impact on defense and serve receive. Junior setter Sydney Selburg Sydney Selburg 5'8" | S Westosha Central | 2023 State WI has been making her presence known on the court. She has racked up 679 assists, 147 digs, 102 aces, and 112 kills. Sydney is a smart and athletic setter who can be very gritty and scrappy.
Waterford (#3 Seed)
Waterford has a great record at 19-9 on the season. Chloe Werner Chloe Werner 5'10" | RS Waterford | 2022 State WI (Committed to Akron) and Isabel Floryance Isabel Floryance 6'0" | OH Waterford | 2023 State WI (2023) earn most of the kills for this team aided by junior setter Josie Johnson Josie Johnson 5'6" | S Waterford | 2022 State WI . This team has great chemistry on the court helping them earn wins this season. They are also extremely competitive defensively with 6 athletes earning well over 100 digs (with many closer to the 200 mark). Some defensive shoutouts include Lisa Busch (2023), Josie, Chloe, Isabel, Meghan Brever (2022), and Maya Weinkauf (2023). The Wolverines are great at frustrating opponents with their amazing defense that never seems to let up.
Fort Atkinson (#2 Seed)
Fort Atkinson’s record is very similar to that of Waterford’s at 19-8. They swept their way past Janesville Parker with scores of 25-11, 25-11, 25-15 in the regional championship match. Unfortunately, there are no stats listed online. One of their impactful players is sophomore setter Andi Spies Andi Spies 5'10" | S Fort Atkinson | 2024 State #135 Nation WI who has competitive and valuable experience on the court. Based on their record and opponents they should have a tight and competitive match against Waterford on Thursday!
