One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.
We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person. Let’s now talk about the Lamar Texans.
Lamar Texans
The Texans represent the Lamar High School in Houston and they are part of the Class 6A, Region III – District 18. The team led by head coach Leisa Brents currently sits in third place in the league with six wins and six losses. Their overall record in the season is of 11 positive results and 15 upsets.

Players to Watch:
Vivian Chaney – Libero/Setter – Club: Houston Juniors – 2023
An extremely technical player, Vivian Chaney excels as Lamar’s utility player with her ability to play at a very high level in multiple positions. She’s excellent when deployed as a libero as she uses her superior defensive skills to keep the Texans’ passing on point and their defensive system operating even against the strongest offenses. She even hits (and eventually scores) from the backcourt when she has a chance. A fantastic server, the 5’5” Chaney spent most the start of the season as a setter. Her production this season is currently at 317 assists (4.6 per set), 137 digs, 64 passes and a team-high 53 aces.
Kaylie Victorian – Outside Hitter – Club: Katy United – 2023
An extremely athletic player, Kaylie Victorian is Lamar’s most used and most effective offensive player. She plays a lot taller than her 5’8” frame at the net due to her tremendous leaping ability and her heavy arm – it’s hard controlling the ball on defense when it comes from her. Despite her offensive duties, Victorian also contributes to the Texans’ backcourt game with her solid passing and digging skills. She leads the team in kills with 166 (31.5% kill rate) and ranks second in passes (295), having also produced 122 digs, 19 aces and 11 blocks.
Nia LaFrance – Middle Blocker/Right Sider – Club: Houston Juniors – 2022
Nia LaFrance’s offensive power makes of her one of Lamar’s most used players at the net. The 5’10” middle blocker has quick feet and a good vertical, a combination that puts her in position to score against any opponent. And she’s been doing so, having tallied 74 kills to be the Texans’ third-best scorer in the season. Her blocking is extremely effective as well and has already generated a team-high 36 points for her team.
