Continue ReadingEvery now and then we will do some special articles on those that are very deserving of an individual highlight to showcase their abilities. This week we will give special recognition to Miss Emily Hellmuth Emily Hellmuth 6'4" | RS Highland Park | 2022 State #77 Nation TX from Highland Park High School and Dallas Skyline volleyball club. We asked for nominations from our readers a few weeks ago for players that deserve special recognition for their leadership on and off the court. We have gotten tons of readers reaching out nominating some amazing athletes for amazing reasons. We have picked some players to write about and Emily is our second article dedicated to leadership. We are proud to introduce our readers to Miss Hellmuth:
Emily Hellmuth Emily Hellmuth 6'4" | RS Highland Park | 2022 State #77 Nation TX [2022] 6-4 Outside (HS: Highland Park/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Pepperdine)
Miss Hellmuth is officially listed as the 55th best overall prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is a fantastic pin hitter for Highland Park High School and also for the nationally recognized Dallas Skyline club program. We profiled Emily recently in an article on her Highland Park HS team in which we stated the following, “She has been unstoppable since the season just started for the Scots as she has posted 12 kills against Red Oak HS this week. She picked up right where she left off last year and looks to have a fantastic senior season. Miss Hellmuth will be a big reason why we have picked Highland Park to go for a dominant run this year. We are very pleased to announce that she recently chose to verbally commit to Pepperdine University. Pepperdine will love the skill set that Emily brings to the table. We look forward to covering her senior season this year. Stay tune to see where she falls on the rankings. When we analyzed her skill-set thoroughly we noticed that she is much more than just a tall player. This young lady can flat out ball on the pins. Many would think that because of her size she would only be able to play middle or opposite, but she shows such great control over the ball in every aspect including passing. Pepperdine knows exactly what they are getting in Emily. She has every chance to move up the rankings due to her workload at Highland Park this season. Stay tuned to see more fireworks from her as we will be watching. In the meantime, please congratulate her on being named one of the best players in the state.
Even though we could go on and on about her physical play on the court, this article is dedicated to another aspect that has gotten noticed over the course of her four-year career at Highland Park High School. We received a fantastic nomination for this wonderful young lady that were about her leadership and dedication to her high school program, so we chose her for a special article to speak about it. When others speak about you without you knowing about it, it truly means a lot.
One of the most telling factors about a player is what her teammates/peers say about her. To be voted captain on your high school team is a great accomplishment, but to be unanimously voted captain for her senior year speaks volumes about what each and every teammate thinks about her. Her teammates see her leadership on and off of the floor like when she does things without being asked to do so. The person who nominated her said that she showed up on a Saturday to support her JV team without being asked to. She also apparently also showed up to their spring league to coach younger players on her own as well. Whoever taught this young lady that kind of leadership by example needs to be congratulated. To be called, “One of the strongest and most selfless leaders Highland Park has ever had in the program” says everything you need to know about her in my opinion.
Pepperdine is getting not only a fantastic player on the court, but a great role model and leader both on and off the court as well. When colleges recruit players, they look at all of the special things about a player that don’t necessarily show on the stat book, but are invaluable to a team and it’s commitment to greatness. Players like Emily are rare and should be commended for their integrity and character. It is said that true character is what you do when no one is looking and I believe Miss Hellmuth embodies that statement. We hope that young readers take note of some of the things that Emily does without being asked and how it shapes who they are as a person. People really do see everything you do and it could change the landscape of your program. I hope everyone reading this is inspired to take some initiative to be a better leader in work, school, teams, or any other relationships. After reading about Emily, I am inspired. Emily if you read this, I say thank you for being who you are and I hope you never change. You will go far in life ma’am with this kind of attitude. Thank you for being such an inspiration.
