Continue ReadingIt’s that time of the year again! The high school volleyball season is progressing at full pace in the state of Washington and we’re all enjoying all the exciting prospects of the Evergreen State in action once again.
Twice a week, we’ll use this space to recommend some matches to keep and eye on and, most importantly, some of the most interesting prospects you’ll want to watch if you have an opportunity.
Don’t miss this one out on Tuesday, October 26th:
Oakesdale vs St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse – 6pm
The Nighthawks of the Oakesdale High School in Eastern Washington is one of the few undefeated teams at the Evergreen State at this point of the season. Head coach McKinzie Turner and the players have won each of their 16 matches, including all eight in the 1B Southeast-East District, dropping just four sets along the day.
The team from the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse High School was the one that came closer to taking the Nighthawks down, taking them to five sets just ten days ago. That was one of just two losses the team coached by Jenifer Johnson had to deal with in the season and the only in their last seven matches. The team holds a 11-2 overall win record and a 5-1 campaign in the district.
Players to Watch – Oakesdale
Giana Anderson – Outside Hitter – 2023
A key piece in Oakesdale’s playing system since her freshman season in 2019, Giana Anderson has been just an important for the Knighthawks this time around. The 5’7” outside hitter continues to contribute across the board with her highly-technical and intelligent game, which has produced team-highs in kills (194), digs (242) and passes (307), besides 32 aces and 15 blocks.
Payton Davis – Outside Hitter – 2024
Outside hitter is certainly a position of strength for the Nighthawks as Payton Davis is growing into a similar player to Anderson and providing the team great stability on both sides of the game. The 5’8” outside hitter ranks just behind her junior teammate in kills (158), digs (207) and passes (171) and leads the team in aces (52).
Players to Watch – St. Jonh-Endicott/LaCrosse
Ashlynn Archer – Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter – Club: CPA Xtreme – 2022
There’s little doubt that Ashlynn Archer is St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse’s most important player. Splitting time between middle blocker and outside hitter duties, the 6’2” prospect is absolutely vital to the team’s point-scoring efforts, leading the entire squad by large in kills (144) and blocks (35) and tying for aces (22). She has also produced the second-best mark in digs (57) and ranks third in passes (48). Archer has committed to Sacramento State.
Cami Larsen – Libero – 2024
If Archer leads St. Jonh/Endicott/LaCrosse’s production at the net, it’s fair to say Cami Larsen does exactly the same for the team in the backcourt. The 5’4” libero is the team’s top producer when it comes to keep the ball off the floor, having amassed 120 passes and 76 digs to go with her 12 aces.
