Since the season started, we’ve run series highlighting the players who are standing out in Washington separating them by division, class or position. Now, with two months of play in the books, we’ll start being a little bit more specific, and give a shoutout to some prospects who barely missed the cut on those first pieces.
We’re back at the 1A Division, but this time to take a look at some of the top liberos:
Julianna Lemelson – HS: Bear Creek – Club: Northwest Juniors – 2023
A very talented libero from the Redmond area, Julianna Lemelson has been doing a great job with Bear Creek this season. In her second season with the varsity team, the 5’1” junior libero has been taking great care of the team’s backcourt. She comfortably leads the Grizzlies in passes (299) and digs (212) and ranks second in aces, with 51.
Allie McDougall – HS: Charles Wright – 2022
Allie McDougall is an important piece of a solid Charles Wright team out of the Tacoma area. The senior libero makes everyone’s lives easier with her consistent play and control of the backcourt. A 5’6” defender, McDougall is one of the team’s captains and has tallied 266 digs, 286 passes and 38 aces so far in the season.
Bella Hernandez – HS: Zillah – 2022
Bella Hernandez is another senior defender with a large role in her team. The libero of the Zillah High School in Southern Washington has been as solid as it gets in role on the backcourt. In her final year of high school volleyball, Hernandez has averaged 2.9 digs per set to a total of 118 and has registered ten aces.
