From time to time, there are athletes that we either never saw play live or never had a chance to see the team in action via video. Here are four 3A All-State honorees that deserve a little more attention.
Morgan Ostrowski Morgan Ostrowski 6'0" | MB Garrett | 2022 State IN , ’22, 6-1 MB, Garrett, IUPUI signee
At four-plus kills per set and nearly hitting .300 for the season, second team all state member Morgan was the main force for the Railroaders all four years of her high school career. After over 1000 kills, 200 aces and 300 blocks, she leaves behind a legacy at Garrett that will fill an immediate need for the Jaguars next fall.
Macy Lengacher, ’23, 5-4 DS/L, NorthWood
Do not, under any circumstances, judge NorthWood on their last loss to Bellmont. Nearly everyone lost to Bellmont this season, including eventual state champ Brebeuf (who won in 5). The Panthers will, however, return their second team all state libero to a squad that finished 32-3 this past fall. She even managed to dig over 20 balls in their quick loss to Bellmont in the regional final. That’s no small feat, considering the match lasted just over an hour. There is an excellent opportunity for Macy to eclipse 1500 digs next fall, and with the majority of the contributing roster returning, another opportunity for Macy to get on the all-state list again.
Dylan DeCoursey, ’23, 5-7 S/RS, Barr-Reeve
Running a straight 6-2 is not easy. Dylan was responsible for both the attack (which she led in kills) and running the offense (earning nearly 500 assists) for the 2A defending state champ. AND the Vikings moved up a class. AND they still made the regional. AND they still earned over 20 wins this past fall. The future looks bright for this southern Indiana squad, as they only graduate one. Dylan should, once again, lead the way.
Sienna Foster Sienna Foster 5'9" | OH Benton Central | 2024 State IN , ’24, 5-10 OH, Benton Central
One of the things I despise about the postseason here in Indiana is the “blind draw”. That way, two amazing teams (BC and West Lafayette) get paired against each other in the first round, instead of meeting each other in the sectional final, if properly seeded. The Bison had an amazing season, finishing 26-5 and playing a tough schedule throughout. None stood out more than Miss Foster, whose four kills per set, .300 attack and nearly five digs per set had her all over every stat sheet every night. She’s also killer in the outdoor scene, and is adept at both disciplines. I look forward to this athlete’s progress during club season, as the sky is the limit for this one.
