5A State Finals: Impact Players
The 5A State finals last weekend were between the ever so dominant West Albany High School and the former runner-ups from the 2019 season Wilsonville High School.
The match was handled steadily by the West Albany Bulldogs, resulting in a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-18, 25-22).
To recap the match, we will be identifying and highlighting players from each team that were impact players for the team. Although the Bulldogs came out on top, the Wildcats also had some athletes with great performances in the match.
WILSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL
Ashli Edmiston Ashli Edmiston 5'8" | OH Wilsonville | 2022 State OR , 5’8”, OH, Wilsonville High School, Athena Volleyball Academy
The high-flying senior six-rotation outside attacker Edmiston was a crucial part of the lineup for the Wilsonville High School Wildcats. A go-to attacker for the team all season long, the State finals match was no different, Edmiston took on the bulk of the offensive load. With 52 swings, she had 21 kills and 12 errors, hitting a .173. Edmiston also had 9 digs and passed a 1.000 on serve receive with 9 receptions.
Edmiston received Moda Health Player of the Game, was a unanimous selection for the 5A All-Tournament Team, made Northwest Oregon First Team All-League (as a senior and freshman), made Northwest Oregon Second Team All-League as a sophomore, was named to the 2021 AVCA All-American Watchlist. and was selected for PrepDig’s 5A All-Star Team last season.
Last club season she played for Athena 17-1 National.
Edmiston is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2022.
Sophia Kleckner, 5’5”, DS, Wilsonville High School, NW Elite

Kleckner is the senior libero for the Wilsonville High School Wildcats and was a vital part of them being able to stay in system and in rallies. From the service line Kleckner was dominant, with 21 attempts, 3 aces, and only one error, she had a service percentage of 95.2%, and had the only aces on the Wildcats side. She also had 10 digs and passed a .931 on serve receive with 27 receptions.
Last club season she played for NW Elite 17-1 Gold.
Kleckner is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2022.
Makenna Wiepert Makenna Wiepert 5'11" | S Wilsonville | 2023 State OR , 5’11”, S, Wilsonville High School, Athena Volleyball Academy
The primary setter for the Wilsonville High School Wildcats, Wiepert continued to do her thing, setting a 5-1 for the team. In the championship match, she racked up 30 assists, 8 digs, a block, 3 kills (on 6 attempts), and was 9 for 10 from the service line.
Wiepert was a selection for the 5A Third Team by PrepDig her sophomore season.
Last club season she played for Athena 16-1 National.
Wiepert is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
WEST ALBANY HIGH SCHOOL
Sydney Harrington Sydney Harrington 5'10" | S West Albany | 2022 State OR , 5’10”, S, West Albany High School, North Pacific Juniors, Virginia Commonwealth University

The senior setter for the West Albany High School Bulldogs has been running a 5-1 for the team all season, and that did not change in the 5A championship. Her setting was impeccable, with 28 assists and only one setting error, she had 2 kills and 11 digs. From the service line, she was deadly, racking up an impressive 5 aces on 25 serves, she had the only aces on the Bulldogs side.
Harrington was a unanimous selection for the 5A All-Tournament Team and was awarded Mid-Willamette First Team All-League this season.
Last club season she played for NPJ 17-1 National.
Harrington recently committed to play for Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall of 2022.
Hailey Heider Hailey Heider 5'9" | OH West Albany | 2022 State OR , 5’10”, OH, West Albany High School, North Pacific Juniors

The six-rotation senior outside attacker was a force for the West Albany High School Bulldogs, and a vital part of the team’s lineup. Hitting a .314 in the match, she racked up an impressive 16 kills on 35 swings. She was 9 of 9 from the service line, had 9 digs, 3 blocks, and passed a 1.000 on service receive with 11 receptions.
Heider received Moda Health Player of the Game, was a unanimous selection for the 5A All-Tournament Team, was awarded Mid-Willamette Player of the Year, Mid-Willamette First Team All-League this season, and was named to the 5A All-Star team by PrepDig as a junior.
Last club season she played for NPJ 18-1 Forefront.
Heider is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2022.
Maddy Hellem, 5’8”, DS/OH, West Albany High School, G3 Volleyball

The senior libero for the West Albany High School Bulldogs, Hellem was a critical piece of this team’s back row all season long. New to the position this season, she is a steady force showing no fear. In the match, she had 9 digs, was 9 for 9 from the service line, and passed an impressive .912 on serve receive with 31 receptions.
Hellem received Mid-Willamette Second Team All-League this past season.
Last club season she played for G3 16-1.
Hellem is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2022.
Tessa Zimmerman Tessa Zimmerman 6'1" | RS West Albany | 2023 State OR , 6’1”, RS/MB, West Albany High School, North Pacific Juniors

Zimmerman was a commanding force for the West Albany High School Bulldogs on the right side, putting up a big block and taking big swings. In the championship match, she had the third-highest hitting percentage, hitting a .267, with 5 kills on 15 swings. She also posted an impressive 3 blocks.
Zimmerman received Mid-Willamette First Team All-League this past season.
Last club season she played for NPJ 16-1 National.
Zimmerman is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
