We shared we don’t typically do a ranking list for freshman classes as we don’t start watching athletes until their 15s club season. The ones we do know, we know because they play up or on a really strong 14s team that competes for national titles. We highlighted maybe 8 players in the fall such as Alea Goolsby Alea Goolsby 5'11" | OH St. Thomas Aquinas | 2025 State #36 Nation KS , Jillian Gregory Jillian Gregory 6'0" | OH Maize South | 2025 State #66 Nation KS , and Logan Parks Logan Parks 5'11" | S Blue Valley North | 2025 State #8 Nation KS to name a few. Here are a few more players we definitely know now after the high school season you will want to watch this winter and spring.
Lily Wedman – S – Blue Valley West
Imagine stepping in and taking over the starting role for the defending Class 6A state champions. Imagine doing this with key pieces returning in almost every position and you needing to be the player they hope you to be in order to return to the state tournament. Welp, meet Lily Wedman and she is the person we are imagining. She was phenomenal in her first high school season leading Blue Valley West back to the state tournament. She averaged around 10 1/2 assists per set to total 1025 on the season. She added 254 digs and 69 kills for good measure.
Addison Budke – OH – Beloit
We don’t travel out toward Beloit too often but after the season Budke had, where is this place on the map again? Introduce yourself to the state Addison Budke. 679 kills, .312 hitting percentage, and 281 digs for the 6’0 pin. She helped lead her team to the Class 3A state tournament where they would lose to eventual state champion Heritage Christian. She did make the all-tournament team. Once I find out where Beloit is on the calendar, we should get a better idea of where she plays her club ball to keep our eye on her this year.
Lily Gray – MB – Sterling
Gray had a very strong first season on the high school ranks for Sterling in 2021. She was efficient with a .284 hitting percentage helping her team to a 29-9 record. She led the team with 326 kills and 114 blocks on the year. She has the potential to move to the pin and develop her game even more.
