It is impressive to watch the best setters in the state go head to head both physically and strategically. Here are top performers from the WIAA State Tournament!
Lilly Wagner Lilly Wagner 6'0" | S Oconomowoc | 2024 State #42 Nation WI – 2024 – Oconomowoc
Lilly Wagner Lilly Wagner 6'0" | S Oconomowoc | 2024 State #42 Nation WI is the best of the best when it comes to setting. She always seems to be “on” and brings the whole package. She has a very high volleyball IQ, is a huge energizer on the court, and has great form. Her strong connection with her hitters is obvious. Despite being only a sophomore, she has had an incredible impact on this team as an athlete and a leader. Lilly was a team captain this year as well.
Ella Safar Ella Safar 5'9" | S Burlington | 2024 State WI – 2024 – Burlington
Another young setter was a top performer. Ella leads this explosive offense incredibly well. She is composed on the court and is always pushing herself and her team to be the best they can be. Ella has great hands and is very fast to release the ball. She is also very strong on defense and from the service line. Ella is the whole package when it comes to setting.
Morgan Kealy Morgan Kealy 5'11" | S River Falls | 2023 State WI – 2023 – River Falls
Morgan was incredibly impressive. In her team’s 5-set thriller against Brookfield Central in the Divison 1 quarterfinals, Morgan was gritty, smart, and effective. She was a team captain and definitely earned that title. She moved the ball around quickly and efficiently and was gritty in out-of-system plays.
Emerson Van Lannen Emerson Van Lannen 5'10" | S Appleton North | 2024 State #144 Nation WI – 2024 – Appleton North
Emerson is another young setter who showed a lot of maturity and experience on the court. She was fast, read the other teams well, and set up her hitters just where they like it. Emerson rarely made errors and showed amazing hustle in out-of-system balls. She has great hands and really pushes herself to set her talented offensive team up for success.
Maddy Fortune Maddy Fortune 5'8" | S McFarland | 2022 State WI – 2022 – McFarland – Committed to UW-Stevens Point
Maddy is a really fun setter to watch. She is gritty on the court and plays at a very high level. Her sets are hard to read and she does a great job spreading out opposing blockers. Maddy has great court vision and can make smart decisions incredibly fast. She moves the ball seemingly effortlessly from pin to pin.

Emma Johnson Emma Johnson 5'10" | S Luxemburg-Casco | 2022 State WI – 2022 – Luxemburg-Casco – Committed to UW-Green Bay
Emma Johnson Emma Johnson 5'10" | S Luxemburg-Casco | 2022 State WI brings a lot of experience to the court. This is their third straight state championship title with Emma on the team and she has been the key to this offense for the past two seasons. She has great connections with her hitters and brings a lot of consistency to even the most chaotic plays.
Rachel Rossing Rachel Rossing 5'9" | S Lake Country Lutheran | 2023 State WI – 2023 – Lake Country Lutheran
Rachel is very dynamic on the court. She is obviously a great setter but is scrappy on defense and has a powerhouse serve too. She makes great decisions as a setter and utilizes hitters in both the front and back row seamlessly.
