Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most.
We are proud to announce our Second Team All State in this article series. We will be posting a few athletes at a time in order to give enough credit to each player. We are very proud of each player and everyone who helped them reach their goals this year. These players are being picked due to their individual performance on their teams this high school season. This next article in this series is devoted to the Outsides. These two young ladies are our picks for 2nd Team All- State.
2nd Team All State Selection: Outside
Grace Smallwood Grace Smallwood 5'7" | OH Bishop McGuiness | 2023 State OK [2022] 5-7 Outside (HS: Bishop McGuinness/Club: Oklahoma Charge/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Grace is currently ranked as our 29th best overall prospect and the 7th best outside in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is one of the awesome pin attackers for Bishop McGuinness High School and one of the best club teams in the Sooner state at Oklahoma Charge. While smaller than most outside hitters, this young lady packs a serious punch. Grace also has a great understanding of when and how to use off-speed shots to score for her team. She has great timing to always hit the ball with solid force and stay in the court. I love how she plays all the way around and can easily be a teams defensive specialist or libero if she wanted to. She had a stellar year for Bishop McGuinness and this is why we have chosen her for our publication’s inaugural All-State award. Please help us congratulate her on the amazing achievement of being named 2nd Team All-State.
2nd Team All State Selection: Outside
Abigail Gray Abigail Gray 5'9" | OH Norman North | 2023 State OK [2023] 5-9 Outside (HS: Norman North/Club: Oklahoma Peak Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Abby is currently ranked as our 12th best overall prospect and the 3rd best outside in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is fantastic on the pins for Norman North High School and a great club team in OP2. We profiled her earlier in the year and here is a little of what we said, “The studious baller has a 4.0 GPA and uses that great brain to power her volleyball IQ as well. This youngster plays with a very infectious fire that fuels her teammates to play at a high level. What some may consider undersized at the position doesn’t matter to Abby as she has some bounce and pop to her game on the pins. She uses every part of her body to jump with any opponent. Her timing for hitting and blocking is second to none as she is able to hit at a high clip and shut down opponents. What I love about her play is that she can turn on the ball to hit line when the defense shifts to block the hard cross ball. Her vision while she is in the air is what will keep her relevant to college coaches as she excels on the offensive end. We are excited to have her in our Prep Dig Family and look forward to watching her junior season.” We sure saw some greatness out of Abby as she helped Norman North to a runner up finish in 6A. They battled in the state championship and lost in five to eventual champion Jenks. She had another fantastic year and this is why we have chosen her for our publication’s inaugural All-State award. Please help us congratulate her on the amazing achievement of being named 2nd Team All-State.
