Continue ReadingAs we continue our rankings countdown a reminder of the groundwork. Rankings are never perfect and are subjective by nature. These rankings are heavily weighed based on CIF and state playoff results. Except in a rare instance, a team will not be ranked ahead of a team it lost to in CIF or state. There may be an example of a team losing to the same opponent in CIF then beating that team in state and in that instance the state victory usually takes precedent. We tried hard to follow the results chain as closely as possible but in a sport like volleyball with tournament play during the regular season, those results can create more questions than answers.

17. Branson (26-5, North Coast)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Open Division Round 1 (lost to Archbishop Mitty); CIF North Coast Section Division 3 champion (defeated Archie Williams)
Key Graduates: L/DS Gia Fisher
Key Returners: OH Sadie Snipes (Soph); OH Elena Fisher (Fr); S Logan Tusher (Soph)
2022 Outlook: Younger players filled important spots and that’s an encouraging sign for next fall as the Bulls could be improved and looking at a deeper state run. Snipes and Fisher led the team in kills during their sectional victory. In the same match, Tusher put up a double-double at setter.
18. Clovis West (33-8, Central)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Open Division Round 1 (lost to Menlo School); CIF Central Section Division 1 champion (defeated Clovis North); Tri-River League champion

2022 Outlook: The Eagles are saying goodbye to a lot of contributing pieces, like their top three kill leaders in White, Williams and Gallion. Also gone is the setter Landen and libero Russell, so it’s going to be a new-looking lineup. Goodrich was fourth in kills this past fall and could be a focal point of the offense while Wancewicz was the only other player to surpass 100 kills and she could also take on a bigger role.
19. Redondo Union (24-11, Southern)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Division 1 Quarterfinalist (lost to Harvard-Westlake); CIF Southern Section Division 1 Round of 16 (lost to Harvard-Westlake)

2022 Outlook: Some of the biggest parts return for the Sea Hawks, including the team’s go-to outside in Corral-Blagojevich. That alone will keep Redondo Union in similar position next fall.
20. Lincoln (30-3, Sac-Joaquin)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Open Division Quarterfinalist (lost to Archbishop Mitty); CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 champion (defeated Christian Brothers); Foothill Valley League champion

2022 Outlook: There’s really no replacing Colyer and her 600-plus kills. She was a vital part of the offense and the Fighting Zebras are going to need to fill that by committee. Deter is back at setter, so that’s a familiar piece. She’ll team with Widell and Vite – the only returning players with at least 100 kills – to form the base which to rebuild around.
