This past weekend, I got to see a LOT of new athletes I had not seen before. There were also quite a few underclassmen that are just getting their recruiting started and this was a great way to get their feet wet with Expos, Showcases, and ID Camps that can get intimidating. As for the Class of 2022 and 2023, there are plenty of athletes who would be a great fit at the next level and just need to find their best fit. Let’s start with some new names to know heading into the 2022 club season!
Ally Ball Ally Ball 5'6" | S Nova Classical Academy | 2023 State MN – 2023 – 5’6 – Setter/Libero – Nova Classical Academy – Northern Lights 17-Red
Ball is sneaky and sees the other court well and has good awareness. She has good set location and crazy good hustle. Ball is quicker than most and moves smoothly across the court where she can defend, set, and dump the ball at just the right time.
Charlotte Lempka Charlotte Lempka 6'5" | MB Alexandria Area | 2023 State MN – 2023 – 6’5 – Middle Blocker – Alexandria Area – Kandi Elite
Lempka made a major impact on Sunday as a 2023 middle blocker. At 6’5, she has the strength, lateral speed, and high IQ to make the big plays at the net to score points. I saw her pound the ball inside the attack line more than once when left on an open net. Lempka also takes a good swing in the backrow with a heavy arm and nice high contact point.

Kaitlyn Erickson Kaitlyn Erickson 5'4" | DS/L Champlin Park | 2024 State MN – 2024 – 5’3 – Libero – Champlin Park – Synergy
Erickson is a player who can defend and has a voice. I LOVE when I can hear defensive players communicating with their attackers, encouraging others, and letting everyone know what they see since they are one of the few players on the court that will have everyone in front of them in their line of view. She has a great court presence, nice defensive movement, and a wicked serve to boot!
Georgia Holicky Georgia Holicky 6'1" | OH Hopkins | 2024 State MN – 2024 – 6’0 – Pin Hitter – Hopkins – Northern Lights
Holicky is super aggressive and takes a big approach and heavy swing. She reminds me quite a bit of the Ring sisters from Wisconsin, the oldest of which is committed to Marquette. At 6’0, Holicky is an outside hitter who can do it all. She has a live arm where she can attack from various angles and terminate.
Ivy Wadzink Ivy Wadzink 5'9" | S Cambridge-Isanti | 2022 State MN – 2022 – 5’9 – Setter/Right Side Hitter – Cambridge-Isanti – MN Juniors (title photo)
Wadzink wasted no time impressing with her hustle. MN Juniors didn’t have a lot of players in attendance but the ones that were made their presence known quickly with Wadzink being one of them. She can put up a good ball for her hitters to terminate and isn’t afraid of finding the open spot on the court herself.
Samantha Ball Samantha Ball 5'10" | OH Nova Classical Academy | 2023 State MN – 2023 – 5’10 – Pin Hitter – Nova Classical Academy – Northern Lights 17-Black
When I am at an event, I’m sure I look like I am constantly texting on my phone but instead I am going between Twitter, Google Docs, Notes, taking video clips, and communicating with our amazing graphics and social media team! I am constantly punching in player numbers and notes and next to #53 I have the word “finesse”. She has a whip of an arm and violent swing with the ability to hammer the line. But she does a great job of mixing it up with finesse shots. You will want to keep an eye on this one!
McKenna Garr – 2025 – 5’7 – Libero/Outside Hitter – Rush City – Northern Lights
Garr caught my eye with her solid platform, great angles, and pinpoint accuracy. She provided great coverage behind her hitters and great court awareness. Garr reads well, keeps her passes under control, and keeps a close eye on the other side of the net. She has good defensive movement and could be a game-changer.
Samantha Perlberg Samantha Perlberg 5'10" | OH Chippewa Falls | 2023 State WI – 2023 – 5’10 – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist – Chippewa Falls – Wisconsin Ice 17 National
Perlberg isn’t new to me but she has somehow missed being placed in the Wisconsin rankings. We are still scratching our heads about that one too, Sami. I love Perlberg’s style of play. She is the type of player who is going to find a way to make some positive plays. Perlberg is strong and active on the pin, but she is a tough defender and strong in serve receive. She’s a 6-rotation player for sure!
