The class of 2022 has seen some tremendous talent over their four seasons of high school ball. We had a little shake-up in the top 10 but not at the top where Ava Martin Ava Martin 5'10" | S Bishop Miege | 2024 State #77 Nation KS still holds steady after another stellar season. State champion Olivia Mae Van Der Werff Olivia Mae Van Der Werff 6'0" | OH Lansing | 2022 State KS made a leap up to third. After leading her team to back-to-back state championship final four appearances, Brooke Leiker Brooke Leiker 6'0" | OH Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS also made a rise in these update rankings. Here is the top 10.
Class of 2022 Top 10
1. Ava Martin Ava Martin 5'10" | S Bishop Miege | 2024 State #77 Nation KS – 6’0″ – St. Thomas Aquinas – PVA – Creighton
The lone first-team AVCA All-American remains our top college prospect in 2022. After watching what freshman Norah Sis did in her first season at Creighton, we can see Martin having that type of immediate impact too. She had 460 kills and 239 digs this fall.
2. Rhian Swanson Rhian Swanson 6'0" | OH McPherson | 2022 State #191 Nation KS – 6’1″ – McPherson – Air Capital Aces – Kansas
Swanson had a phenomenal career for McPherson that ended with a jaw-dropping 733 kills this fall. She was a second-team All-American and will take her talents to Kansas. She will attempt to crack a deep Kansas light up.
3. Olivia Mae Van Der Werff Olivia Mae Van Der Werff 6'0" | OH Lansing | 2022 State KS – 6’0″ – Lansing – KC Power – College of Charleston
Van Der Werff was lights out in her final season that helped Lansing finally get over the hump and claim the state title after numerous final four trips. Her efforts awarded her third-team All-American status after posting 437 kills and hitting at a .325 clip.
4. Taylor Stockman Taylor Stockman 5'11" | OH Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS – 5’11” – Blue Valley West – PVA – Nova Southeastern
Blue Valley West has found great success in the last two years and Stockman was a major reason why. The Nova Southeastern signee had 325 kills and 62 blocks en route to AVCA All-Region honors.
5. Brooke Leiker Brooke Leiker 6'0" | OH Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS – 6’0″ – Blue Valley West – Mavs – Colorado Springs
Leiker is a player we’ve seen much growth in over the last year. Her agility and movement have allowed her to take her game to even greater lengths. She joined her teammate Stockman on the all-region team after leading her team with 403 kills. She will head to the mountains next fall for the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
6. Kamryn Farris Kamryn Farris 5'10" | DS/L Lansing | 2022 State KS – 5’10” – Lansing – KC Power
Farris is unsigned and we don’t know why. She is an elite defender so maybe she’s just weighing her options. She was clutch for the Lions as they captured the Kansas 5A state title this fall. She posted 452 digs on the year.
7. Lauren Wheeler Lauren Wheeler 5'10" | S St. James Academy | 2022 State KS – 5’10” – St. James Academy – Pohaku
St. James made a late-season push and attempted to play spoiler in the state tournament. Wheeler who primarily sets was asked to hit this fall for the Thunder. She has shown her ability to set on the club scene and will be a good pick-up for a low to mid D1 or DII program.
8. Lauren Schutter Lauren Schutter 6'2" | MB Wabaunsee | 2022 State KS – 6’2″ – KC Power – Illinois State
Schutter helped lead Wabaunsee to another state tournament this fall after dropping 508 kills on her opponents. If that wasn’t enough she caused havoc on hitters with 174 total blocks. She will take her talents to Normal for the Missouri Valley tournament champions.
9. Iyannah Jackson Iyannah Jackson 6'0" | MB Lansing | 2022 State KS – 6’2″ – Lansing – Dynasty
If you watch the development of Jackson from three years ago to today you will see the hard work she put in and she was a key component for the state title team at Lansing. She hits for a high percentage and can hit in the front and behind the setter. She had 261 kills at a .417 percentage.
10. Abby Rose Abby Rose 6'0" | MB Smoky Valley | 2022 State KS – 6’0″ – Smoke Valley – Fight Club
Rose ended an illustrious career for Smoke Valley with close to 400 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Her ability to score makes her a good prospect for a DII program.
