The story of the 2024 class is its talent pool in the setter position. These athletes were impressive and versatile. What’s more impressive is of the eight standouts, four hail from Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy.
Here’s a look at the top 2024 setters at the Prep Dig Top 250.
Sophie Crawford Sophie Crawford 6'1" | S Gull Lake | 2024 State MI | 6’0 S | Gull Lake/Dead Frog
Crawford was one of the taller setters in the gym on Saturday. The Gull Lake standout was impressive with her movement and placement of the ball. A raw athlete, it showed to really help in her performance throughout the day. Crawford looks to be a standout setter from the west side of Michigan.
Julia Gojcaj Julia Gojcaj 5'9" | S IMG | 2024 State FL | 5’7 S | Stoney Creek/High Performance
The name of the game with Gojcaj was her speed. Not only was she quick to the ball, but she showed to be quite comfortable running a fast tempo. While running this fast tempo, her location was almost always spot on, a little more work on the height of her sets and Gojcaj could really make some noise going forward.
Margaret Hilliard Margaret Hilliard 6'3" | S Cranbrook | 2024 State MI | 6’1 S | Cranbrook/Michigan Elite
Hilliard was a fascinating player to watch in this group of the 2024s. Tall and lengthy, you wouldn’t peg Hilliard to be a setter. Maggie was impressive. Not only was she smooth in her delivery of the ball, but she showed to be quite agile. With a little more confidence on the court, Hilliard could become one of the premier setters in this class.
Caitlin O’Neill Caitlin O’Neill 5'10" | S Ann Arbor Skyline | 2024 State MI | 5’10 S | Skyline/Michigan Elite
O’Neill is one of the more balanced setters of the day. O’Neill’s footwork and location were spot on throughout the day. With a little more confidence and speed in her delivery, O’Neill could really make a rumbling.
Jackie Scheiber Jackie Scheiber 6'0" | S Riverview | 2024 State MI | 5’11 S | Riverview/Michigan Elite
Scheiber was full of surprises on Saturday. During the individual skills portion, she showed great consistency and placement of the ball. But it was when Scheiber stepped into the 6 on 6 portion where she really turned heads. Not only was she balling out setting, but her attack and defense were spot on. She got set a few balls out of system after taking the first ball that left you speechless.
Kaitlyn Schram Kaitlyn Schram 5'9" | S Hartland | 2024 State MI | 5’9 S | Hartland/L2
Schram was another setter who liked to run things fast. Not only was her tempo fast, but her set selection. She was one of the most unpredictable of the setters, you think she is setting one ball and bam! Her willingness to reverse the flow or making the risky sets (that worked!) made things exciting on the court.
Taylor Smith Taylor Smith 6'1" | S Pewamo Westphalia | 2024 State MI | 6’1 S | Pewamo-Wesphalia/Five:1
One word to describe Smith over the day is steady. Smith is the kind of setter that isn’t too flashy, nothing to crazy, but gets the job done. And she does it well. Her location and tempo were impressive and her height gives her a great advantage.
Avery Woodard Avery Woodard 5'7" | S Marysville | 2024 State MI | 5’7 S | Marysville/Michigan Elite
Woodard was arguably the favorite setter out of the 2024 class. She may be small in size, but she plays BIG. A lefty setter, her comfortability to swing on two was a thing of beauty. Beyond her setting skills, amazing, she held her own in all aspects of the game. Her back court defense and serve receive was impressive.
