Our last ranking update was in August, so having a full high school season allows us to get more information and talk to more of our trusted sources. Today we look at some of the players who made what we consider drastic jumps in our latest update.
Caitlyn Little Caitlyn Little 5'10" | OH Lafayette | 2023 State MO 22 → 14 – OH – Lafayette/Rockwood
Little built on her solid club season by having a huge fall campaign for Lafayette in 2021. She delivered 269 kills on the year in helping lead her team to a 32 win year.
Ava Roth Ava Roth 5'6" | DS/L Jefferson R-7 | 2023 State MO 19 → 15 – DS/L – Jefferson/Rockwood
We’ve watched Roth become a defensive standout over the years but she also showed she can swing from the pins this fall for Jefferson. She had over 300 kills on the year. She was still a baller defensively, snatching up 445 digs.
Grace O’Reilly Grace O’Reilly 6'0" | RS Springfield Catholic | 2023 State MO 24 → 20 – OH – Springfield Catholic/417 Juniors
After a strong high school season, O’Reilly saw her stock rise as she moved up four spots in the latest rankings. She paced her team with 363 kills offensively. She continues to build on her game evidenced by over 200 digs on the year.
Abigail Christian Abigail Christian 5'9" | DS/L Liberty North | 2023 State MO 26 → 22 – L/DS – Liberty North/Dynasty
Liberty North was close to earning an opportunity to attempt a repeat in 2021 and Christian was a catalyst behind this effort. One of the premier defenders in the state, the 5’9″ libero had 433 digs and over 500 receptions.
Shaye Koski Shaye Koski 5'10" | OH Park Hill | 2023 State MO 35 → 31 – OH – Park Hill/Mavs
After becoming the go-to scorer for Park Hill this fall, Koski showed she can handle the load leading her team with 366 kills. She displayed she is one of the top scorers in this class and she jumped up four slots and just missed cracking the top 30.
Kira Cherry Kira Cherry 5'11" | OH Oak Park | 2023 State MO 39 → 34 – OH – Oak Park/Pohaku
We watched Cherry stand out as the top player during a rough high school season. When she could get a set, she could terminate with the best of them. She makes the jump this club season to Pohaku, which should allow her game to be on display.
Mattie Reynolds Mattie Reynolds 5'9" | OH Lutheran St. Charles | 2023 State MO 57 → 44 – OH – Lutheran/Rockwood
Reynolds helped lead her team to a 21 win season this fall. She emerged as a premier scorer, backed by 363 kills. We were equally impressed with her improvement defensively, which helped in her ranking jump.
Abby Chadwell Abby Chadwell 5'9" | S Strafford | 2023 State MO 59 → 46 – S – Strafford/417 Juniors
A state runner-up in 2021, Strafford had a tremendous year, and their signal-caller Chadwell made things happen. She averaged over 10 assists per set to total 1120 on the season. She also garnered 380 digs from the right-back position. For good measure, she delivered 111 kills.
Kori Franklin Kori Franklin 6'1" | MB Notre Dame De Sion | 2023 State MO 69 → 47 – MB – Notre Dame de Sion/Invasion
A deep post-season run turns heads and that’s what we saw with Notre Dame and Kori Franklin Kori Franklin 6'1" | MB Notre Dame De Sion | 2023 State MO this fall. Her stock rose after a fall of strong play in the middle. She had 140 kills and 84 total blocks.
Tori Valentine Tori Valentine 5'11" | OH Blue Springs South | 2023 State MO 65 → 57 – OH – Blue Springs South/Invasion
The Jaguars needed someone to step up big this fall and Valentine rose to the challenge. We first caught glimpse of her about this time last year during the opening of the club season. She came up big in her junior season with 349 kills and 202 digs for the 8 win team.
