Even with the a bulk of the 18s teams in the midwest taking their play to Chicago for WinterFest, the 18 Open at Rock N Rumble was going at it. Powerhouse program, Munciana Samurai, took home top honors this weekend alongside some stellar clubs.
Here are some of the biggest showstoppers in the 18 Open at JVA’s Rock N Rumble.
Evelyn Doezema Evelyn Doezema 6'2" | OH Grand Rapids Christian | 2022 State #34 Nation MI (2022) | 6’3 OH | MVA
When in doubt, find Evelyn Doezema Evelyn Doezema 6'2" | OH Grand Rapids Christian | 2022 State #34 Nation MI ! The Michigan State Volleyball commit was showing off her prowess all weekend long. MVA’s go to arm, she was really impressive in all aspects of the game this weekend. Doezema has a high reach and hits a very strong, deep ball that scores so well.

Josie Teslaa Josie Teslaa 5'10" | S Unity Christian | 2022 State MI (2022) | 5’10 S/OPP | MVA
Maybe an unsung hero for this MVA crew is Josie Teslaa Josie Teslaa 5'10" | S Unity Christian | 2022 State MI . Listed as a setter, TeSlaa was often found swinging on the right pin and coming up huge at crucial points. Coach Chip Will played around with line ups and formations throughout the weekend and TeSlaa was always involved. In need of a new look, TeSlaa delivered when called upon to set.
Brooklyn Conner Brooklyn Conner 6'3" | MB Forest Hills Central | 2022 State #178 Nation MI (2022) | 6’3 MB | MVA
Easily one of the top middle blockers in Cleveland this weekend, Brooklyn Conner Brooklyn Conner 6'3" | MB Forest Hills Central | 2022 State #178 Nation MI was all gas, NO breaks! The Clemson commit was a major force at the net the entire weekend. It was rare to see Conner not touch a ball during a rally because her block is just so good.

Kathryn Randorf Kathryn Randorf 6'1" | OH Gilmour Academy | 2022 State #37 Nation OH (2022) | 6’1 OH/MB | AVC
When you’re walking through a convention center and hear a boom like this go off next to you, you got to stop and watch! Kathryn Randorf Kathryn Randorf 6'1" | OH Gilmour Academy | 2022 State #37 Nation OH was showing off her muscle all weekend long. This kid is a fun one to watch, you can catch her blocking in the middle with the best of the best and the next minute she’s taking a crack out of an out of system ball on the pins.
Ramsey Gary Ramsey Gary 5'5" | DS/L Pendleton Heights | 2023 State #165 Nation IN (2022) | 5’7 L | Munciana
Attackers were no match for this ’bro. Ramsey Gary Ramsey Gary 5'5" | DS/L Pendleton Heights | 2023 State #165 Nation IN was impressive all weekend long en route to an 18s Open title. Gary is rock solid in the back court. She moves great and has such a smooth touch with her defense and reception game, even the hardest of swings looked like lollipops coming off of Gary.
Eva Hudson Eva Hudson 6'1" | OH Bishop Dwenger | 2022 State #110 Nation IN (2022) | 6’1 OH | Munciana
The Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland may need to send Eve Hudson a bill because the floor is broken. One of the heaviest arms I saw all weekend, there was no stopping this Notre Dame commit. She hits hard in system, she hits even harder out of system and she is so sly running all kinds of routes in transition.

Avery Ross Avery Ross 5'10" | OH Pendleton Heights | 2022 State IN (2022) | 5’9 OH | Munciana
A perfect 1-2 punch on the pins with Hudson, Avery Ross Avery Ross 5'10" | OH Pendleton Heights | 2022 State IN was a consistent force all weekend. While only 5’9, she plays well above her height. Ross is springy and boasts one whip of an arm. The Oakland University commit was a steady passing presence as well, really making her a complete package.
Ella Bostic Ella Bostic 6'0" | S Carmel | 2022 State #45 Nation IN (2022) | 6’1 S | Munciana
It’s no wonder why these attackers are balling as hard as they were this weekend. Ella Bostic Ella Bostic 6'0" | S Carmel | 2022 State #45 Nation IN is one of the premier setters in the country and her talents were on full display this weekend. Like Bostic herself, her offense is fast and clever. The North Carolina commit was having field day running her hitters all around the court, the scoring opportunities were endless for Munciana.
Zoe Kovach Zoe Kovach 6'0" | MB Leo | 2023 State IN (2023) | 5’11 MB | Summit
It’s really confusing to see Zoe Kovach Zoe Kovach 6'0" | MB Leo | 2023 State IN listed under 6’0 because her play is so BIG! Kovach was a steady dose of excellence all weekend long. She’s quick and always available in transition. While on the shorter side, her block is quite formidable. Aside from her block, Kovach was giving teams fits all weekend long with her slide.
Lauren Ross (2023) | 5’9 S | Summit
When you talk about setters bettering their attackers, Lauren Ross should be one of the first to bring up. Ross was a fun discovery this weekend. So agile and athletic, Ross was putting her hitters in some amazing zones this weekend. One of the highest IQs you could find in the 18s division, Ross was making the big plays all weekend long.
