I alluded to the fun medley of talent on 18 Black’s roster as I recapped the events of last week’s Premier Showcase in Omaha. This spotlight will allow us to take a deeper dive into the details of this Nebraska ONE team. This is a good time, too, because 18 Black is another one of those teams currently facing a national qualifier gauntlet in Kansas City.
Here’s Nebraska ONE 18 Black!
Small-Town Talents Abound
This roster has gotten a great influx of talented players from outside the big cities.
We can start with Lexi Theis Lexi Theis 5'11" | OH Fillmore Central | 2022 State NE , who just wrapped up a successful career with Fillmore Central last fall. This multi-sport athlete brings some lethal swings to the left pin on a volleyball court, and she will take her talents to Rockhurst next fall.
Brianna Lemke Brianna Lemke 6'0" | MB Mead | 2022 State NE is another committed pin hitter who makes some big contributions to this team. She helped lift Mead to a huge season and a tournament appearance last fall — an awesome accomplishment for the Raiders program. Lemke’s volleyball journey will continue at Hastings College following the club season.
Hop over to Raymond Central and you’ll find Emaree Harris Emaree Harris 6'2" | MB Raymond Central | 2022 State NE , a middle blocker who undoubtedly left a mark on the Mustangs. She hit nearly .400 in her senior season and has the length and physicality to compete with any 18s team.
From Raymond, we travel southeast to Palmyra, where Lillian Parolek played her high school ball. After piling up some impressive dig totals with the Panthers over her career, Parolek signed with in-state Doane to continue her playing career. Before then, though, she’ll have one more opportunity to shine with Nebraska ONE.
Lastly, we go way up north to O’Neill. That’s where Wreece Liewer Wreece Liewer 6'0" | RS O’Neill | 2023 State NE will continue to put up big numbers. She’s a 2023 playing a year up with 18 Black, and her powerful arm fits right in with this age group. Liewer is always one to watch when this team takes the court.
In the City
We’ll finish up with a look at the athletes on this team from the bigger metros, three of whom hail from the Star City.
Lincoln Lutheran teammates Raegan Holle Raegan Holle 5'5" | DS/L Lincoln Lutheran | 2022 State NE and Molli Martin Molli Martin 5'11" | MB Lincoln Lutheran | 2022 State NE will join forces one more time this year with Nebraska ONE. It has to be an exciting reunion, too, because these two were invaluable parts of the Warriors’ run to the Class C1 championship in 2021. With this big-match experience under their belts, Holle and Martin will bring that title-winning mentality to 18 Black.
Over at Lincoln High, Harper Case Harper Case 5'4" | DS/L Lincoln High | 2022 State NE has made a habit out of keeping balls off the floor. I remember watching her amass over 30 digs in last year’s high school season opener, and she never looked back after that.
And, up in the Omaha suburbs, Gretna’s Savannah Shelburne Savannah Shelburne 5'7" | S Gretna | 2022 State NE leads this team at setter. She has seen dozens of matches as the starting setter in the ultra-competitive environment of Class A. No stage will intimidate her now.
