New Year’s tropes and cliches aside, 2022 is bound to be another exciting time for volleyball fans in Nebraska. It might even top last year, which, for me, is a high bar.
I have a 2022 wish list floating around in my head already. Surely, there are other players, parents, coaches, and teams that have made some New Year’s goals, too. So, let’s dream big and look ahead today.
These are just a few of the things I hope to see (or, perhaps, expect to see) in 2022.
Another Nebraska Club National Championship
Some people might tell you that this is almost an inevitability. A club team from Nebraska has to win a national title again this year, right?
Whatever the odds may be, I’m incredibly anxious to see how Nebraska’s club programs progress throughout the season in pursuit of a title. We’re going to find out which teams respond well to adversity and which teams are peaking at the right time. Selfishly, I’m hoping that at least one Nebraska-based club team produces some amazing storylines en route to a national championship in 2022.
A Big Debut for the Prep Dig Circuit
I’m really fired up about this one. The Prep Dig Circuit is rolling out this year, and I’ll be a part of a lot of the action going on around the country.
Beyond just covering all the big happenings of the club season, we’re providing a big slate of club events featuring some of the best teams in a variety of regions. The Prep Dig Circuit demonstrates our continued commitment to giving exposure to as many athletes as we can, and I’m incredibly excited to cover some of the action. In regards to 2022, it’s part of my wish list to see this year’s circuit be a launching point for even bigger ventures in the future.

More Big Commitments
Sure, this is probably a given. Seeing prep athletes commit to play at the next level is one of the best parts of this whole experience, and I’m anticipating plenty more big commitments in 2022.
We’re heading into this year with plenty of big Nebraska 2023s still on the board. This class put on some widespread displays of dominance during last fall’s high school season, and that’s probably a sign of things to come for club competition. Stocks will continue to rise, and commitments will follow.
Of course, we’ll reach the summertime and a whole new recruiting rush with the Class of 2024. Many of these players are likely raring to get their recruiting journies underway, and I’m certainly ready to watch it all unfold.
New High School Champions
I suppose it’s not too early to look ahead to the next high school season. Last year’s energy and drama have me wanting more.
Perhaps one of the best parts of the 2021 season was seeing all the new names rise to the top. Oakland-Craig’s unprecedented run to the Class C2 championship comes to mind. Howell-Dodge also had a breakthrough after a long drought. After seeing some of these fresh faces take home a trophy, can we see it again in 2022?
Another big comeback in the fourth set wins it for Howells-Dodge!
