Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most.
We are proud to announce our Second Team All State in this article series. We will be posting a few athletes at a time in order to give enough credit to each player. We are very proud of each player and everyone who helped them reach their goals this year. These players are being picked due to their individual performance on their teams this high school season. This next article in this series is devoted to the Setters. These two young ladies are our picks for 2nd Team All- State.
2nd Team All State Selection: Setter
Olivia Arredondo [2022] 5-7 Setter (HS: Antonian/Club: SA Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Olivia is currently an unranked prospect in the State according to our class of 2022 rankings, but is playing her way into consideration for the list. She has what it takes to be on it during the next update. She plays at Antonian Prep high school and plays club for the up and coming San Antonio Juniors club program. We profiled her in October when we nominated her for the award and here is what we said, “She has her varsity program currently sitting at a 38-7 overall record and are also 4-0 in district. This young lady has been putting on a clinic this year as she has tallied 1206 assists, 28 aces, 76 kills, and also 266 digs. That assist number is the second most in the entire state for every division amongst seniors players. While she may be small in stature, she plays a very big game amongst giants. Her location is what is key to her game. It doesn’t matter where she is on the court, her ball will be in a great location for her hitter no matter the tempo. We are proud to announce that due to her amazing stats and production on the court, she is in the running for All-State consideration.” We could not ignore the stats that she put up this year. Volleyball at different levels is all relative and you still have to deliver on the court when it counts. The numbers do not lie and Miss Arredondo was the 2ndmost in the entire state amongst seniors. She put everything she had on the court and it showed. Please congratulate her on earning the inaugural 2nd Team All-State from our publication.
2nd Team All State Selection: Setter
Faith Cox [2022] 5-9 Setter (HS: Cedar Ridge/Club: Austin Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Faith is currently an unranked prospect according to our Prep Dig rankings, but is playing herself into consideration this season. She is a talented setter from the Central Texas area. She plays for Cedar Ridge High School and also for the fantastic Austin Skyline program. We profiled her in October when we nominated her for the award and here is a little from the article, “Although she has been steady for her entire high school career as a setter, this young lady has really come into her own this season and is leading the entire state in assists so far this year. This season alone she already has 1198 assists and is nowhere near done. This five foot nine lefty even has 84 kills, 61 aces, 35 blocks and 316 digs. She has truly stepped up as a leader on a gifted team that is battling everyone the play. She has helped her team to a 35-10 overall record and is competing very hard to earn a playoff birth in a super competitive district. Please congratulate her on being nominated for All-State consideration. We are excited to finish watching her senior season and we ask that you stay tuned to the award winners at the end of the season.” We have chosen to award Miss Cox the inaugural 2nd Team All-State award from our publication due to her amazing assist totals. She proved herself on the court and we are so proud to honor her with the award. Please help us congratulate her on the amazing achievement.
