Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most.
We are proud to announce our First Team All State in this article series. We will be posting a few athletes at a time in order to give enough credit to each player. We are very proud of each player and everyone who helped them reach their goals this year. These players are being picked due to their individual performance on their teams this high school season. This next article in this series is devoted to the 2024 Outsides. These two young ladies are our picks for 1st Team All- State.
1st Team All State Selection: Outside
Kalina Calvillo Kalina Calvillo 6'1" | OH Antonian | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-11 Outside (HS: Antonian/Club: Alamo/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kalina is currently listed as the 77th best overall prospect in the state. She is a talented pin attacker for Antonian High School and also for the amazing Alamo volleyball club out of the Lone Star Region. We profiled her earlier this year and here is a little about what we wrote, “She has already earned 1st Team All District, All Area and All State and she is only a sophomore. She is no stranger to the big stage as she and her Alamo team have qualified for Nationals three times in her career. She is only getting started as this year she was already named to the AVCA Phenom Watch List. The accolades will keep coming as this kid has some serious pop on the ball. What I love about her is the ability to score down the line with ferocity when she sees the block setting up cross on her. She is a stud who can score on either pin. We are extremely excited to have her in the Prep Dig Family and look forward to covering her career. Please help us congratulate her on achieving the prestigious state ranking. This young phenom has 523 kills, a .310 hitting percentage, 34 aces, and 189 digs. Her kill total is the second most in the entire state amongst sophomores. She is a kill machine that Antonian gets to have for the next couple of years. She is one of the main reasons why her varsity squad is 41-7 overall on the year and 5-0 in district.” Kalina was amazing as she dominated on the left side for her varsity team. They traveled and played against some stiff competition but she did not back down from anyone. She is one that will definitely move up the rankings once we update them this month. We are proud to announce that due to her awesome stats, she is our choice for 1st Team All-State for the class of 2024 according to our publication. Please help us congratulate her on the achievement.
1st Team All State Selection: Outside
Avery Jackson Avery Jackson 5'10" | OH Hockaday | 2024 State #13 Nation TX [2024] 5-9 (HS: Hockaday/Club: Madfrog/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Jackson is currently ranked as the top prospect overall in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We introduced this young lady when we first rolled out this class last year and here is what we said about her, “This freshman outside hitter from the Dallas area is flat out electric on the court. While she doesn’t stand 6 foot tall yet, she plays extremely high above the net. Her hang-time makes it very difficult for opposing blockers to time her attack. The most electric aspect of her attacking is her lightning quick arm swing. She is a true six rotation left side pin who excels in serve-receive also. To be honest there is nothing this young lady cannot do on the court. From a deadly jump float serve to a relentless pursuit of a defensive ball, Avery has all of the tools to play against any opponent. But the show-stopper has to be her offensive skill-set as she is able to score from every area of the volleyball court. Every coach in the country needs to take note of this name now. She will be so much fun to watch for the next few years. If you haven’t seen her play yet, please stop by a court this season to take note as you won’t be disappointed. During her second year as a varsity player, she has the sixth most kills in the entire state amongst sophomores. Her stat line is very impressive as she has 487 kills on a super impressive .351 hitting percentage. She also has 436 digs, 59 aces, and 27 blocks.” We watched as she dominated in every statistical category. This youngster showed that she can truly do it all on the court. We chose her for this award based on her overall abilities in both the front row and back row. We are proud to announce that she has earned 1st Team All-State from our publication. Please help us congratulate her on the honor.
