The two-day tournament will feature 97 teams playing across three club venues in the Houston area – Willowbrook, Houston Skyline and Woodlands Revolution.
The 16s teams will all play on Saturday while the 17s and 18s, which are paired in a single division, will see the court on Sunday. We are planning to cover the 16 Division in person and bring you our lists of reports the following week, so as we prepare for the event, we’re publishing some previews for the 17/18 Division over the week.
Today we’ll highlight some interesting prospects of GCVA 171 Coast, one of the teams of the Gulf Coast Volleyball Association out of Friendswood.
Players to Watch:
Annie Cathey – Middle Blocker – HS: Clear Lake – 2024
A dynamic middle blocker with good footwork and an interesting offensive game, Annie Cathey offers GCVA 17 Coast a reliable presence down the middle. A six-footer, she’s also very quick and intense in her way of playing and that translates well on her offense. Also a track and field athlete, she does a great job in hitting around the block and converts on a very high level. Cathey, who can also hit from the pin, had a very good season with Clear Lake, registering 311 kills and 96 blocks.
Cassidy Browning – Libero – HS: Manvel – 2023
Cassidy Browing was part of a solid Manvel team that made a deep run to the State Tournament a couple of months ago. One of her main assets of the libero is her ability to quickly react and move her body towards the ball. Her excellent ball control also contributes to her excellent production on the court. Her contributions to Manvel in the last club season were remarkable, as she tallied 240 passes, 176 digs and 21 aces.
Emmaleigh Vincent – Outside Hitter – HS: Deer Park – 2023
A productive two-way player, Emmaleigh Vincent is a modern outside hitter, who can play on both ends on the ball. The 5’9” prospect does a good job on the backcourt and is explosive at the net, taking advantage of her quick arm and her great leaping ability. She was an important contributor to Deer Park in the last high school season, registering 163 kills, 53 digs and 24 blocks.
