Ella Alexander- BVA 15 Elite
My first impression of this setter was seeing her pass a ball over her head to the opposing deep corner on the second contact to go for a kill at 22-22. Of course, I was taken back because you don’t see that in everyday volleyball. I had to figure out who this spunky, smart setter was and her name turned out to be Ella Alexander. She has fast feet and smooth hands, but the best part of her game is how crafty she is. Alexander can make big time plays in the tight games, and that’s what you want from your setter.
Remmi Cooke- EVA 15 Blue
The second outside for this EVA 15 Blue team is special because of her control in the front row. Cooke puts lots of topspin on the ball because of her natural, wrist action. When she’s attacking, the heavy topspin and unreadable arm swing causes a lot of issues for the opponents defense because of her simply movements in the wrist. It’s hard to find upperclassmen that know what they’re doing with their hand to ball contact, let alone a 15s player. Wait, are you ready for your mind to be blown? Remmi Cooke is actually just an 8th grader and will graduate in the class of 2025. Watch out for this one as she’ll only grow into a stronger, taller player!
Pryce Tripp- FCA Upstate 15-1
A position that doesn’t get talked about a lot is the right side, but Pryce Tripp caught my eye when she went up and banged a ball line as hard as she could. Teaching a right handed opposite is very difficult to hit line because you have wait for that ball to get on your hitting shoulder. It requires patience and trust in the setter. She simply has both qualities which is hard to find. Also, just like Cooke above, Tripp puts tons of spin on the ball, but she doesn’t necessarily hit the ball as hard as she can every swing. Tripp places the ball extremely well and knows when to keep it in play with a tip or a roll shot. Her team runs a 6’2, so when Tripp is subbed in, you know where the ball is going.
Audry Lokers- Beech South 15 Black
This right side hitter, Audry Lokers, has a wicked left-handed arm swing. She’s a great swing blocker and makes sure to double in the middle if the team needs it. Playing all the way around, Lokers is a team gem where she can hit a nasty D ball out of right back but can also make scrappy hustle plays in defense. When she’s in the front row, she has a real knack for hitting an inside set. She’s great at tooling that outside blockers hand when it’s inside, and that almost always secures her a kill. You can tell this kid is just a baller!
